I can imaging a better way to avoid it
I think this is a normal reaction from anyone who has been a victim of an attack, it is like wishing it never happened in the first place, but it is important to remind yourself that you have done nothing wrong. Nothing at all justifies what this prick did and if it wasn't you that got attacked it would probably be someone else for something else.

^ this, a million times. You didn't make a mistake, Ed.

your mistake was existing in the same space and time as a violent, mindless wankspanner, ed, the consequences of which you are now having to deal with. my comment was a not so subtle dig at certain posters around these parts who seem to delight in trying to apportion blame to the victim by suggesting their behavior in some ways exacerbates violent reactions, which is fatuous fucking horseshit. you know who you are.

Awful stuff, hope you heal up soon

Nasty stuff. Sorry to hear about this. Hope you heal up soon, and that van-twat gets a decent punishment quickly and without too much hassle on your behalf.

how you might have best avoided being beaten up by an aggressive, violent thug in a car.
He should probably not have been wearing a short skirt and tight top, and it's more likely that it's your fault, @greenhell, for doing something, somewhere else, to someone different, some other time, but generally giving people on bicycles a bad name, therefore legitimising them as targets for aggrieved people in cars.
You bastard.

make sure to be extremely vocal with police about not sharing your details with the guy
They actually do that!?
-
• #6338
Now and again, once it gets nearer to the court date the guy will likely have found a solicitor who will ask the police to see files/evidence/stuff to do plea bargaining and any of that could easily have name/address somewhere. If you bring attention to it earlier on is slightly more chance they won't balls it up.

Had an interesting exchange of opinions this morning with a moped rider, copied below the report I submitted.
"I was cycling in the direction of Vauxhall on S Lambeth Road in the bus lane at approx. 8am on the commute to work. I performed a life saver and was overtaking another cyclist when there was long and repeated horn from about 500m back distance back and was then buzzed by a moped rider as I was pulling back to the left. At the next red lights I asked the driver of the moped (above) why objected me to being in the middle of the bike lane. He then started getting more agitated so we pulled into Miles St. He then was getting really angry, got off the moped and started to threaten me with violence, asking where I lived repeatedly etc. I then asked a passing jogger to stop and witness the abuse and took a photo of the bike reg and a short video. He kept telling me I wasn't from London and should "Fuck off", that he was going to "take me down", that I was a "pussy" and "what ya gong to do, send it into the Daily Mail?". I then left before it escalated further (at this point it would have been physical) as he had opened the seatbox to the bike and was worried he was going to bring out a lock or some kind of weapon. At the next lights (Vauxhall roundabout) he caught me up, carried on shouting abuse - one that sticks in my mind was "Fuck off and eat some canapés"
I have a motorbike & car license, owned and driven both and have cycled around London for 10 years and this was the worst incidence I have ever had.
I would not normally report something like this but his last words were "I'm going to find where you live and rape your mum"
The guy clearly has some issues with other road users, he was very aggressive and looking for a fight and the only reason there wasn't one was because I removed myself from the escalating situation. I have a significant concerns he will intimidate, threaten or abuse other road users"

Yeah, got to admit, it made me chuckle too. My best retort up till then had been to him that the only thing he could take down was a big mac meal

"Fuck off and eat some canapés"
Stolen
Sitting down and thinking about it, I can imaging a better way to avoid it, which isn't exactly useful after a couple of days.
My only mistake is to ignored the driver in the first place and genuinely forget he used his vehicle as a weapon, until I hear a roar, despite the hearing aids turning off the background noise except for my iPod.
