  • We seem to have slightly crossed wires here, I was talking about the cyclists initial response to being passed in that manner.

I don't think anyone is debating the driver was a dick, just saying the cyclist was almost as much a dick and, imo, could definitely fit the profile of 'camera wearing victim complex cyclist'

  • I don't wear a camera, I'd have chased the driver down and told him he was a cunt.

  • that's not a close pass really though...

  • And nothing would have changed re driver cyclist relations (and it wouldn't be on the internet)

I'm not being high and mighty, just speaking from experience, I've had hundreds of aggressive interactions with drivers, shouted, sworn, broken bits of their cars and it achieved sweet fuck all except momentarily bolstering my ego. I'll probably shout at a driver in future tbh but I will accept, after the fact, that I was acting like a dick

  • Then you think we should just let bullies get away with bullying?

I disagree, I think we should call people out, should not go quietly when people prioritise 5 seconds of their journey over our health and (possible) continued existence.

The driver in the vid will hopefully think twice before trying to kick a cyclist - that's a win.

  • That screenshot is from after the pass, doofus.

  • There's a space in between shouting and swearing and taking no action ;)

  • Also I disagree, that driver has probably had his ideas about cyclists further entrenched imo

  • He did not shout or swear. He said "That was too close" and the response was threats to kill and an assault.

  • Oh I agree- he's obviously a total cunt who will never change his views. That doesn't mean he should not be challenged on them.

  • Aye you're right there actually

this really has to go in here

  • It never look as close as it does in reality with those wide angle lenses.

  • this really has to go in here

    Fixei trix is srs

  • All that practice and "oneness" with your sickfixie (TM), to achieve the kind of rad action me and my mates were pulling on our Halfords Apollos 20 years ago.

  • I don't understand what he was hoping would happen then?* sweet 'tache though.

*I watched without sound, would sound have helped?

  • Don't get why they kept filming, unless it was a helmet cam that was kept on.

  • I also don't get why there's any need for Macaframa 2.

  • I've had hundreds of aggressive interactions with drivers, shouted, sworn, broken bits of their cars and it achieved sweet fuck all except momentarily bolstering my ego. I'll probably shout at a driver in future tbh but I will accept, after the fact, that I was acting like a dick

Exactly this. I think more cyclists need to look at their own overreactions and consider if they really achieve anything.

  • that driver has probably had his ideas about cyclists further entrenched

This too, more importantly. Next time he sees a cyclist in primary position, is he going to think:

    a) "I fell over last time I got angry with a cyclist, this time I'll wait patiently until it's safe to pass"

    or

    b) "It's one of those cyclist cunts again perhaps I'll knock him over and get my own back"

    ?

  • b), all day. He's not going to change - he's the metaphorical racist uncle at a wedding.

However, that in no way means that he should not be challenged on his views.

The best we can hope for is that his views die with him, sadly.

  • Thousands of drivers now know what the door zone is. That cyclist is a bit of a prick but the reaction to that clip has been positive, largely. Loads of drivers now understand why people ride well wide of parked cars.

  • Dash cam using drivers, he only filmed it for his youtube ect.

  • It never look as close as it does in reality with those wide angle
    lenses.

    This my issue I think.
It appears the car is pretty far away, which makes the filming and chase down look a bit naff.

But if it was a twatish close pass. Its a different story.

  • I was over taken by a lorry today, oth of us at decent speed, so close my shoulder brushed the trailer.

My reaction was to pull off the road for a 10min sit down. Cant imagine wanting to chase anyone. Didnt even fancey getting back on the bike.
