What's the best/preferred option when bar like Nitto promenade are installed on a road bike. Needs to be 10 speed compatible (Tiagra rear derailleur), double chainring.
Bar end shifters? MTB shifters? The cheaper the better. Thanks!Argh next page

I think I've got one you can have. Let me raid my parts bin tonight.

I'm trying to work out a way to attach a front light on my better half's bike.
There is a basket which means the handle bars are out of action, but it has a touring fork with a spare set of rack mounts at the bottom and an in-use set near the top of the fork which have a thin (c.5mm) steel strut coming off to support the front of the basket.
I have a pair of these (which are great btw):
So my options seem to be;
1) pop it on the end of the front QR - which I don't like as the light will be for being seen rather than seeing and I think it's better to have it higher.
2) get a longer bolt for the upper mount, turn it the other way around and try and thread the bottle on to it.Does anyone know what the threading is for QR skewers? Or does anyone have a better (not too pricey) idea?
Thanks,

Headtube? What kind of mount does the light have?

Depending on the rack, it might be possible to mount a light on the front brake. Is that an option?

Tiagra flat-bar shifters are the Shimano approved match, 7900 bar end shifters are slightly cheaper. It's up to you which lever position you fancy.

I tried and failed with modern trigger shifters, then ran thumbies. It was all weird and ugly but the only option bar grip shift. Bar end type won't fit in bar cavity.

No there's a big wicker basket in the way. I could try attaching something to the underside, but I don't really want to fuck about with making a hole in a wicker basket and then using spacers.
The light will just be one of my old cheap Catseyes, or possibly this old, but better one:
Either way the usual wrapy twisty clamp thing will probably be needed:
I guess I could also have a play to see if I can thread the flat bit through the basket weave. Not very elegant, but probably the best place.@Arawn - it's a big wicker basket not a rack. There is just a wire-like support coming off the upper rack tabs (think a mudgaurd strut but wider and more sturdy). It's got canti's so some sort of plate coming off the bolts might be an option.
Having the light higher than the wheel axle is also more practical from a damage POV for a daily commuter.

Nitto promenade
I had this problem with some other bars. If you don't mind using cross-top brakes there are some ITM bars (and probably others) which have road bar diameters.
I think there may also be a Nitto bar that can run bar ends and mtb style brake levers. Maybe have a look through Rivendell for ideas: http://www.rivbike.com/

Where's the best/cheapest place to buy Shimano 105 5700 hoods, just the rubber bits. Either original or aftermarket, preferably black. My current ones have a horrible sticky melty residue that won't come off.

Thanks a lot!
Any chance these would work, price is more attractive... (only trying more up-right position prior on GF road bike before considering other type of bike)

Are you able to fix a length of small tube (PVC electrical conduit) to the top right corner of the basket with cable ties, then use the standard light mount to attatch to this?

Sorted thanks.
£1.99 in Condor!

Too cheap to not buy a that price!

Gumwall clinchers in 25mm? I can't remember the forum tyre of choice. Not Panaracers as it's to go on the road bike, the fixed has those in 28s and they are heavy as fuck.

Vittoria Open Corsa SC. Maybe Veloflex Masters if you're feeling tarty.

That's not a bad idea.
But back to the original one ...
..... Does anyone know the threading for a standard QR? Because that way I could possibly mount one of the KCNC bottle-shaped things by just sticking a longer bolt through it and

While on the topic of shims, does anyone have a 25.4->26.0 handlebar shim they don't need? Alternatively, a suggestion of where to get one relatively cheaply?

There's the Continental GP Classic, though they're a bit darker than the standard gumwall.
SBC Cycles has one in their second hand box in excellent condition for £10, I nearly bought it just because. Then I realised that I've done too much of that lately.

Any chance these would work
Only if you buy 10-speed Shimano MTB derailleurs to go with them, road and MTB are not cross-compatible.
