I currently have the one that came with the pedals. I know they do a more adjustable one. But I'd rather drill holes to bolt the cleats directly where I want them. It already feels like standing on stilts.

Ah, I thought you were using an after-market adaptor that allowed the cleats to sit further back.
I'd like to try mid-foot, but I'm not ready to take a drill to my Empire's...
Got some speedplay specific 43 Sidis which you can have if you want?
They're probably too slim, to limited in terms of foot position and too green for you, but ¯_(ツ)_/¯
