  • Patch underneath, loads of machine stitching over the top...

  • Dr Denim.

  • Thanks. I was thinking I would prefer hand stitching, but not sure.
Would you choose blue or white thread?

  • I'd go blue... Dr Denim is your best bet but if you're handy with a machine I'd give it a go...

  • Let it get bigger before patching it. It'll look better.

    More, you know, raw.

  • So done with Gustin. Main issue was standard absurdly long cut requiring tailoring. I don't mind in theory to get good value for quality cloth but I'm 5'10" and a bit, 34" waist and 32" leg but when you cut a foot and a half of the leg of a pair of jeans you end up with a baggy, balloony, almost flared looking leg that just looks awful. Ordered some grey slim whatnots in Feb (my third order but hoping the slim cut would solve that issue) and got an email in June telling me they'd failed quality control and wouldn't be coming. Four and bit months to find out yr badly fitting jeans ain't coming. Nah. I'll be spending extra on stuff that fits and doesn't take 18 weeks to not turn up. Good Jean pun there. Go me.

  • Haha... No way!

  • +1 it's an easy job. If you don't have some spare fabrik, sacrifice the inside of a back pocket

  • It's so fucken hillarious you may have missed it. Not "turn-up".I may have been drunk at the time of posting. Let me put that another way. I was drunk at the time of posting.

  • I thought it was plaid for all to see... #sorry #schickmode

  • Snagged some GAP Selvedge in their sale. £45.

  • I'm sorry if I miss something, but was there a consensus on here about how to wash raw jeans?

I was thinking gentle cycle in the machine with normal soap for colour wash. But how warm? I have an idea that warmer water will bind the colour better and prevent colour loss, is there reasoning behind this? Alle my jeans are sanforized, I think.
Should I drop a cup of salt in the machine too? Also to prevent colour loss.
    Obviously hang to dry.
    Anything else I'm unaware of?

  • Consensus on here is : Don't.
If you have to: bath. very lukewarm water. woolite. rinse. drip dry outside.

  • Also anybody noticed some good online sales still going on?
I need skinny black selvedge, but I'm skint.

  • i have some 'unbranded' going spare
UB101 skinny 14.5oz selvedge in 32 but they are a bit tight for me (suit 30/31)

    worn once, £30 posted

  • Thanks, but I don't really trust uniqlos recent denim. Especially if they have to put stretch in it.

Was it teenslain who always dyes his new jeans black?
How are your experience with fading? I'm contemplating doing the same.

  • Yup, results can be a bit hit and miss... You might need to dye them more than once, just follow the instructions... FYI The dye won't work on the stitching as most threads aren't cotton... I'm really happy with mine...

If they start to fade, dye them again! Mine haven't tho', holding up well...

Try it on an old pair first... Dylon dye only costs about a fiver from Tesco...

  • Thanks. I actually want them to fade a bit like normal raw denim.
I think it's a good thing that the stitching stays as is too.

  • I have a pair of Japanese selvege Pherrows Jeans up for sale if anyone is interested.

Only Son Of A Stag stock them in the UK http://www.sonofastag.com/collections/pherrows

32'' waist (true to size), straight leg, neppy denim, very nice yellow selvege, RRP £169, 1 year old, no fades, unwashed.

    PM me for pics!

  • price.
    make advert. list price.

  • Gah! I knew there was something, not intentional honest guv'.

    £75

  • I tried a few pairs of the current Uniqlo last week. They look okay ish but definitley not up there in terms of quality (what do you expect for £34?). They feel pretty light and very stretchy and you can see that in the way they hang.

I couldn't get on with the sizing either. I'm usually a 34" and the slim/skinny fit 34" were spot on round the waist but skin-tight like Rod Stewart's sprayed on jeggings on my fat old cyclist thighs. The 36"were ok on the legs but like like giant clown pants round the waist.

The regular/stright fits looked like Asda own-brand dad jeans.
