  • Quite enjoying this poor weather, is making Mia very cuddly and clingy and indoorsy!

  • It's really not a good idea to leave kittens at home on their own for long hours. If you are both working long hours, wouldnt it be better to get a young cat? Patch was between 1-2 when I got her and she still had a kitten look and everything except she was already house trained and I could happily leave her be during the day. Kittens are only kittens for a matter of months...

And I will always say to people to adopt, there are plenty of all kinds of cats from each and every charity. And the good thing with getting cats from a charity is that they are usually tested for charterers so you are less likely getting the unknown. Patch is exactly what it says on the tin.

  • Even if you were to get them now, they'd still be kittens in September. Extra's right, kittens need shitloads of stimulation, and although they are obviously adorable and cute it does sound like an older cat would fit into your lives better.

  • ...and a cat that's a year old isn't a lot less kitten like but is easier to entertain or entertain itself!

  • Was this in a pub in East London ? was there two ? I went to some typical old boozer a while back and they had 2 black cats who owned the place.everyone loved em.
edit just seen the last page . oops

  • working from home is ideal, I can combine having a kitten and doing (something ever so slightly resembling) my work

    ahem

  • Kitten is saying why do you even bother working when you have me?

  • Super cute!

  • truth be told I only work when she sleeps. fortunately she sleeps a lot. she only has an ON (hyper) or off (deep sleep) mode at this age, just over 10 weeks now

  • She looks very much like my ginger, Timo.

    In about 1/10th scale, obvs.

  • Patch almost 4 still only has ON (manic) and OFF (leave me alone or I scratch) modes... lol

  • Thanks for the advice guys. When do people who don't work at home normally get kittens, if it's best to be around them most of the time?

I think we're going to adopt my OH's mum's poor old cat instead for now. He's about 10 and really friendly, but has seriously taken to self harming by licking a sore patch on his side until it's raw. My fiancée thinks it's been brought on by the stress of two yappy little dogs which haven't always been around. Hopefully moving to a quiet house near Wanstead Flats will cure what ails him.

  • I think some people either have some sort of rota, like there is always a family member / flatmate around etc, or they are just slightly irresponsible...

  • Sweet! She/he any good at adjusting wheel bearings yet?

  • If I remember correctly, we took a week off to chill with our two, then I would start work early and my other half would start late. Think it also helped that there were two of them, there still play together and hang out all the time tis quite cute.

  • When we got ours at about 5 months old, they mostly just hid from us anyway. They were rescue kittens(found in John Lewis loading bay), so perhaps hadn't had as much human contact as happily raised ones. They're over a year old now and love us a lot. Still very flighty with other people, but they're pretty independent so that's handy.

  • Mia has turned into a proper little hunter lately - presents every other day...always pleasant to come home to...

  • Nah. He's mostly just good at shedding hair on everything and stealing things from people.

And +1 for ExTra ^^^^^^ - best to always have somebody around if you're adding a kitten, but not everyone does things properly. I guess people don't always know or think it's that important. Looking after your OH's mum's cat for the time being sounds like a happy story, though!

  • Haha, that expression!

Also really cool photograph, and obviously very cute kitten!

  • Great photos!

  • regarding earlier comments, where is this mythical off switch on a cat and how can I get it to work on the steely eyed hunter?

  • ha! this switch can only be operated by the kitten in question itself, sadly...

  • I guess overly stimulate it so it knackers itself out but you might knacker yourself before it does!

  • Head on a pillow..human in disguise!

  • Trip to the vet for ours was exciting.

He's been flapping his head as if trying to shake something out of the ear.
Took 3 of them to try and check it out, he didn't like it but no vets bled today.

After some whiskers and a nap he's off on nocturnal jolly........... i expect the breakfast alarm call around dawn, when you get a cat massage then a claw up your nose to make sure you are awake because it's whiskers time.

Then while he's eating...... we get to nuke a room with feliway, bundle him in it, let the feliway work, then attempt to apply ear dops without bleeding or losing a finger.
Yeah, mornings going to be fun.
