  • Me too, eating too much seems to be a habit which I'm really struggling to break. I've got meal sizes right down but snacking is still an issue, and for that reason I find it easier to lose weight by just riding more.

  • This is where myfitnesspal helps. By actually tracking what I eat and learning what sensible portion size is, I am now eating more appropriately. I am not sure that being 500 calories a day under would leave me very happy, so I just calorie restrict for two days a week and then try to eat the normal RDA for the rest of the week.

  • Been touring for two weeks now, got six left to go, actually worried that there'll be nothing left of me by the end of the trip!
    Fat is just falling off me, but the challenge is going to come in September - keeping it off.

  • Well, I finished Tour Divide, and I dropped around 7Kg in 3 weeks. I can see my ribs. I'm now bang on 69Kg, that's 30kg less than I was 3 years ago.

  • after 2 months of cutting out booze, most sugar, turbo intervals, track training and road racing I've managed to lose all of 2.5kg.

  • I ate nothing but sugar for 3 weeks, but then I was riding most of 18 hours a day for 21.5 days. So much sugar, all my fillings fell out and I need a long appointment at the dentist to sort it out.

  • Doing it wrong. I gain weight touring :) nomnomnom

  • You should've kept doing the turbo, track and road racing.

  • After bugger all training, eating mostly ice cream and cake, I dropped to sub 65kg at the end of last week.

    Literally no idea how that happened.

    Solved it by redoubling the eating endeavour.

  • Isn't that quite a lot? Did you find out your body fat % beforehand?

    What are your measurements now?

    I dropped 10/12kg in first 4 months of the year. I've been between 84.5 and 86.5 since then but my measurements are all far better (meaning I have bigger biceps, chest, shoulders and smaller waist). It's not just about weight.

  • I spent the weekend in Munich - I gave up beer this year so went from nought to tasty in 3.5 seconds.

    Back to the gym today and it felt hard!

  • Had lost 1.5 stone this year. But my birthday week of eating followed by all the chocolates left after my birthday and a couple of pounds have crept back on. 4 gourmet days in San Sebastián this week are going to wreak havoc. I will have to get back to calorie counting on my non diet days as well as on the restricted calorie days when I get back.

  • No idea of body fat % but it's not low. I'm just under 83kg now, was 85.5kg before, 6 foot tall. I've got below 80 before but struggled to stay there.

  • Started off well last year and got into a good routine, then fell out of it.

    Still, I'm a lot fitter than I was last August when I started, which should make future losses easier (or at least less unenjoyable).

  • Dropped from 80kg to 68kg when I moved to NYC last year. Now back in the UK and I've crept back up to 75.5kg. Decided to try and get back down to 68kg before I go to Gran Canaria in November.

    Feeling a lot fitter on the bike but woeful on the hills. Hopefully this makes the difference.

  • 55kg pre horrible break up... 64.5kg now... not winning

  • Any of you folks tried the low "fodmap" approach?

    I'm finding I bloat up with almost everything i eat (i'm dairy free and coelliac already)
    Problem is i love cooking so onions and garlics get used a lot and I also tend to eat a fairly standard gymrat lunch of two Grilled chicken breasts and a head of broccoli.

    I think it could be worth trying as my weight tends to stay about the same, but the discomfort of the bloating is causing em to struggle to eat enough to train properly. What do we think?

    (TL:DR) - "FODMAP" diet, worth a go or hippy bullsh*t?

  • My partner has just started this - good results so far, though only just into it.

  • If it works for you then it's worth it for you, I guess.

  • weighed myself for the first time in 4 months. down to 65.2, drinking and skipping meals works.

  • Please go to your GP, it might be an intolerance but it could be something worse. It's definately worth getting checked out. Not trying to scare you but I lost a friend earlier this year to stomach cancer (which being bloated can be a symptom of) so it's better to err on the side of caution.

  • You are right, I should head to them, but I can't remember the last time i went to a GP as i tend to sort myself out eventually.

  • I'm smilar. It's easy to just ignore something until it goes away but if this is something more serious it's not going to just get better and it really is better to get an early diagnosis for the serious stuff. Hopefully it wont come to that but there's no harm in making sure.

  • Ahh, I forgot the second part of that diet.

  • 78.8kg today (at ten to nine in the evening, so post exercise and food).

    I'm going to try to get back to 75kg again, so have started using the MapMyFatness app on my phone, which has already revealed some surprises - 1,000 calories in a quiche, who knew?

    I'll try and run a steady deficit, goal is to increase FTP whilst dropping weight, be good to hit 4 watts/kg again, I've not been there for a while.
