Road up the Angeles Crest to Buckhorn - around 2200m of climbing in around 55k. Stinking filthy hot at the bottom as I decided a lie in was better than an early depart.

First time I've ever failed to get to the top of a Col.
Orly?
What if I told you photos exist of you pushing a brown bike up a Derbyshire col?

Christ, yesterday was a bit wet wasn't it? The ride my jacket definitely decided it wasn't waterproof any more.

Did London to Cambridge with a mate. Nice route, so wet even the Gabba gave up. Argued with 4 idiots on MTB who kept doing really dick moves like undertaking on narrow road descents and shouting at people to move out the way and the spitting every 100 meters all of them.
Ended up in a bush thanks to a lady who thought she was Sagan going down and overtook without noticing the car coming towards her, she then pull straight across, clipped my front wheel and off into the bush I went. Managed to catch her and had a pop, she decided it was my fault and so we argued for about a mile before she caught up with the rest of group she was riding.
That put a massive downer on the day, took me longer to get home then it did to cycle.

I did a couple of rides Yesterday to test out my new Selle SMP over some longer distances, and the rain was bothersome. Summer weight shoes with no overshoes didn't help, and cold wet feet was the main reason I stopped the morning leg a bit earlier than planned.
As I currently have no intact overshoes or winter weight shoes, I gave the Old Plastic Bag Trick [1] a go for the afternoon ride. After 4 hours of riding (some of it quite damp) my feet were still not sending me any nasty messages. The inner socks were a bit damp with sweat by the end, but still quite comfortable.
[1] Apply in order: merino sock, plastic bag, another sock (the thinnest you can find, just to prevent holes in the plastic bag), cycling shoe, rain.

Hautacam is a bit of a horrible bastard. Fuck all at the top so you didn't miss much!
Wish i was back in the Pyrenees so much. It was only 10 days since i was there but feels like ages already. Shitty England.

How many days are you doing it over?
As many as I end up needing, we're going to combine it with a camper van tour and see how it goes.

Two unsuccessful attempts to do Chalkpit, Ide, Toys, Yorks and Brasted hills back to back this weekend. Saturday's failed attempt happened after my mate's knee blew up after Chalkpit, massively swollen IT band and had to drag him home up Westerham.
Attempted again today, failed after realising 30mins in how fucking windy it really is. Thought best not to bother so turned for home near Westerham again, only to double puncture at the same time, front and back. Luckily, right next to a nice cafe so sat and ate brioche and chatted to a couple from Dulwich who were doing a similar day of hill climbing. I nodded and kept quiet when they said they were planning on 200km with 3000m of hills...
Might try again on Friday. Or not.

Nice ride up Hourquette d'Ancizan today.
Feeling much better on the bike. Had slave crabon wheel failure on previous day so I'm rocking some Mavics with a 30T Franken-casette and it's amazing. #oldmanproblems -

Went on a short out and back solo ride up Col du Tourmalet today as the forecast had it due to rain early afternoon. A little bit quicker than I was in 2013 but that's because I stopped for a shorter time in La Mongie.

Heading back to the UK tomorrow so went for a great ride today with the gent who runs the chambre d'hote here in Bagnères-de-Bigorre.
Went out through the Baroneeis then over the steep side of Aspin. Over 3000m of climbing. Need to get my weight under control as soo slow. Off to the how do I loose weight thread but assume the answer is drink less beer, eat less sweets and ride my bike more.

Went for a "hilly" ride out Brighton way with a mate of mine today. Made a nice change from the solo rides I'm mostly doing. https://www.strava.com/activities/359616144
The girlfriend wanted to tackle the woman's 100 by going up Hautacam today. First time I've ever failed to get to the top of a Col. Came within 2 km of the summit, ran out of water, baked in the low 30deg temps, thought Fuck this, so came back down. Still managed 130 km though with 2600m of elevation. So so pretty out here.
