  • Was supposed to be doing the Torchbearer 12hr race at Bontrager 24:12. Decided 500miles of diesel wasn't worth the forecast mudfest so decided to save some cash and try the Ridgeway Double ITT instead. The route was designed by a local rider, Mark Goldie, who is seriously quick.

I started at 3.30 in the dark. It became apparent that my legs had not recovered from the last training block with most climbing having to be done out the saddle right from the off - a slight issue

I spent a lot of time controlling my mind's desire to stop. Mental math on average speeds, holding out for treats and looking at where my Help for Heroes band should have been (I forgot to replace it after putting my armwarmers on).

It took just over 1ohours to get to Overton, at that point my mind perked up and could use my legs better. I was on the home straight with only 53miles to go. An hour into that and I realised sub 15hrs was on the cards. After that everthing just sort of felt right.

Depression to euphoria, never want to ride a bike again to working out how to get sub 14. Bieks and minds.....
