I've never really understood this as a method of training for climbs. Do you normally climb at a low cadence?
High power at high cadence ftw (and enjoy your knees in your old age)

Easier to focus on developing power at low rpm? Maybe. Gives you time to focus on getting the muscle chains firing correctly.
As much as the idea of high power at high cadence sounds great, from my own perspective its mostly one or the other at the moment. (although for me low cadence is ~80rpm) -

Having read a bit more into it this morning (quiet here at work for once) it seems to be a 'might work for some' deal.
I used to do it on the turbo sometimes, but found that it caused me to grind on the roads.
I'll continue my reading now.

I found 6 weeks of heavily-loaded low-cadence (60s-80s) cycle touring actually increased my normal-ride cadence from 90 to 100ish (and pretty sure there was a power boost as everything felt whooshy, but pre-p2m), if that means anything.

Over long climbs (i.e. 30mins plus) at over 8% you don't really have a choice on a 36/28.
The rest of the time i ride at over 85rpm

I am hoping for this effect too. A week of riding climbs at low cadence in the pyrenees has had that affect on me slightly - am definitely a touch spinnier than before

What are you reading (new to training SRSly so trying to read as much as I can).
I've found similar to 6pt, that its made me realise how much easier it is to pedal at 100rpm, and also made me realise how bad my general pootle along on a slightly over-geared fixed has been for my cadence

I found this (you did ask! :-)
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/21479957/
The problem with all of this stuff is that the reality is everyone is different and what works for some, doesn't for others.
I do believe in training specificity though.

Ha. This is serious bizness! How else can I make sure I win all the hills on the Sunday club run?

Good point. That's the most important bit of the week!

I was planning on tomorrow too, probably starting and finishing earlier than you guys.
I may tag along with you for a bit but you lot are waaaay faster than me. I'll be sure to DAS every single time I see y'all though (petulant child) and will be sure to grab you for a quick chinwag before heading off.
Sorry for being antisocial but think I need the steady plod at a pace/ power that works for me a t the mo rather than chaingang style smashfests

I'd say the last one was a very steady pace, just that the pace was very unpleasant :/ will be good to see you/shout abuse though.

Ah no, out. No chance to leave clothes at the office.
I'm still in bed.
