  • You can, you already got 7 hours from half of the battery life.

  • Done 35okm on the dakato 20 and I am down to one bar of battery.
I am going out to the Surrey hills to see how long it will last.
I love this little bit of kit

  • I've not run the 810 flat, but the most I ever got out of the 800 was ~13hrs.

  • My second 810 keeps crashing when navigating as well. Again tried a factory reset, auto power off settings and checking the firmware was up to date.

Ended up on the phone to garmin support who eventually let me know that because I'm using third party maps that are unsupported by them, aside from recommending a master reset there is nothing they are willing to or able to do to resolve the issue.

I've therefore ended up doing a hippy - I'm returning the current one and I've had a brand new unit with garmin europe mapping included arrive today. Let's see how it goes. Needless to say, if there is still an issue, I'm not going to be particularly happy!

@hippy is yours still going strong with the official garmin maps?

  • Yeah, since I got it back and then did the factory reset and updated the firmware it has been fine. I'll stick to Garmin maps from now on. Just being able to look up places based on the UK postcode is enough reason to pay the extra.

  • Garmin 500 does around 17 hours of TCX navigation on the battery. If system and message sound is turned off it will still make a sound if you go off course, nice.

  • So there's issues using openstreet maps? Kinda sucks as garmin maps likely won't have the trails I'll be riding =/

  • Yep, that's what Garmin said! Completely agree that it sucks. I do understand from their point of view that they can't troubleshoot as they aren't the people that produce the maps.

However, from reading about on the internet a bit, and even on Garmin's own forums, this appears to be a well known issue. If they are going to sell a device that you can load maps on to, which they sell both with their own mapping included and without, I feel like they should be a bit more receptive to working out a solution with their customers who have paid quite a decent sum of money to buy their devices.

Are there any specific trails you want to use? If you like I can try to have a look on my copy of the maps and see whether they are there, if it's going to make a difference to you?

  • Can you look up how much of this trail is visible? http://ridewithgps.com/routes/9286004

  • I don't know if you'd be able to help, as you might have only the Garmin euro maps, but I'm using my 810 to navigate the Munda Biddi trail in Western Australia. That being said, I won't be using way points or anything, it's semi-decently sign posted, and I'll be using the 810 "free-ride" map screen to just keep an eye on the trail at major turn points, as well as paper maps.

So to follow on off all that...does it crash in the free-ride map screen, or only during actual point to point navigation? I did 7 hours with it on the trail and it seemed ok, but I need it to be stable for 9 days of 12-14 hours a day...

  • I'm afraid it doesn't look great compared to your route on ridewithgps

So you're staying on the west/south side of the river/stream there, whereas exporting as a gpx and then loading onto my 810 with garmin maps has you crossing the river/stream multiple times (no, I'm not quite sure how you're expected to do that either).

Sorry man. On the other hand, the second half of that trail (away from the water) looks to be pretty much identical!

  • Ah, sorry about that - I'd just assumed you were riding in the UK.

I've never had an issue on the free-ride map screen, it is only during turn by turn navigation. I guess we're using the device for different purposes, and for your purpose it seems to work great!

If it's lasted 7 hours I'd wager it'll be fine - mine usually crashes quite quickly (within the first hour or 2) on a longer route.

  • How can I set FTP and/or the power zones on a Garmin Edge 800?

  • Training zones.

    Under the settings menu.

That's where it is on 1000.

Might be elsewhere on 800. Maybe under the settings for activity profile.

  • Settings
    Bike Settings
    Bike Profiles
    Bike 1 - current
    Power Zones

  • Ah yeah, it is in a different place then on 800.

  • My Garmin Edge Touring doesn't have a Barometric Altimeter. When I upload a ride to Garmin Connect I see that Elevation corrections are enabled and the recorded figure on the device is usually more than displayed on the Connect page.

However (dot dot dot), if I look at my Personal Records section of Connect my logged Elevation is the data recorded on the device, Errr....which makes it look like I've climbed 200M more than I have on the last ride.

Which should I beleive? Device or Connect's Elevation Correction?

  • GSC10 replacement magnet where can I get one?

  • Which should I beleive? Device or Connect's Elevation Correction?

Whichever one you want. Neither will be very accurate.

  • Meh! I wanted a definitive answer, thats not fair ! :) (but thanks anyway).

Best I take out a plumb line and a very very long tape measure next time I'm hillock climbing?

  • My 810 seems to have suddenly stopped syncing with with Connect on my iPhone (6) via Bluetooth. Both are running latest software. Anyone got similar issues?

It starts, but after a short while just says 'Sync Failed. Device connection error'

  • @Dammit was talking about an issue similar to that a few pages back, he might know.

  • Is there a way to import a route on Garmin Connect to be able to edit it?

  • You can do that via Strava (if you connect Garmin Connect to it).
