Just spent 20 minutes drooling over vintage Gibsons on the Angel Music and Vintage & Rare websites and concluded that I need to be sensible and responsible and stop teasing myself with stuff I really can't justify buying. Come on now. Time to grow up. etc.
Then I opened my latest PRS statement that arrived last night. Wasn't expecting much...
£1,100!
I'm totally doing a little dance! SO! New iMac or old guitar? New imac or old guitar? New iMac or old guitar?

I think you should head straight to Le Reej, call Tony, then see how much is left in the morning...

Ha! Tempting. Just splurged on a copy of Acoustic Guitar Magazine and an M&S salad. That'll do for now.
Am still slightly reeling from the realisation that since filing a tax return as self employed for musical income, any related expense can be written off against profit. It seems like some sort of dark magic uncovered in a dream where buying too many guitars causes money to appear in my bank account and playing music causes money to appear in my bank account to buy guitars with. Real life isn't normally anywher near this cool. Where's the catch?

Reality returns. Just checked my online banking for the first time since May. Not great. Have used the unexpected bounty to pay off my overdraft and credit card. No new axes for me just yet. At least I'm now in substantially less danger of having to sell the ones I have or end up giving handjobs for crack. And that feels pretty good. AND ALL THANKS TO GUITARS!
Reckon I can stretch to a steak dinner on a square plate tonight! still dancing

Old guitar if you ask me.
Just imagive that an electromagnetic bomb may explode and all electronics will be destroyed.
You will still have your guitar after that. -

Someone sell me an old super champ or blues jnr please :(
-
• #3118
Re-issues no good? I've never seen a SF superchamp for sale in this country. Hacket has a couple of 5w Champs.
Pro Jnrs are rad. Single 10s rule.
-
• #3119
Yeah single 10 or 12. The SC XD supposed to be better than the X2 even though I'm mainly not bothered about the modelling front end.
Want 15w tube minimum in case something strange happens and I start gigging again.
Saw a pro jnr but it was volume/tone only? No way to OD the tubez without dimeing the pot? -
• #3120
Always wanted a Super Champ, rare as, bru...
PS You only need two volume pots... One on the guitar, one on the amp...
-
• #3121
Pro jnr and an overdrive pedal beats Blues jnr pre-amp fizz all day. I love EL84s.
-
• #3122
Interesting. And you're right of course Joe, except I'll still be playing at 'bedroom' volumes at home. The jnr has spring verb though which I like. ATM I use minimal delay in the front of my amp but always liked having the choice
-
• #3123
Chuck an attenuator in between the amp and the speaker... Job done...
-
• #3124
I use a holy grail reverb (and Dan-echo and t-Rex term) into a champ. Job's a good un. In fact, I will be hooking up that very arrangement for a session today. I'd better get up and get to it. Champs ftw!

Picked up my bass for the first time in about a month to learn some wedding band tunes. I decided to play through my Trace Elliot VA350, the all valve bastard, for a change. Went through the valve preamp that's got nothing but a volume control.
I'd forgotten how amazing it sounds! Even at low volume it just sounded lovely and warm and fat. If it wasn't such a heavy old beast I'd love to gig it more often.
I was in the studio again yesterday. Being filmed for a live session thing. Did three runs though of five tracks. Started out with the studio's beautiful 50's Gibson J50 but made a right hash of the turnarounds as I wasn't used to the guitar. Decided to switch back to my little Guild which is much easier to play. It sounded so thin and reedy after the big pokey Gibson. Had a re-think and decided to man up and after 20 minutes getting used to the Gibson stuck with it for the rest of the day. My fingers are beat up today. I only have half a nail left on my right hand middle finger. I hope it turns out ok. Not looking forward to seeing my knackered gurning face and snaggle-teeth in glorious technicolour close up tbh. At least the guitar will look cool.
