  • 1st run in over 10 years. 1,500m in 7mins 20 secs. pleased to not be dead.

  • Run in to work to be extended to HM distance tomorrow (trying to do this once a month, and getting it out of the way early in the month).

Brain refused this morning, extra hour in bed and then ran the usual route into work for 11.6km. Fastest run in though, and stopped for only 5 seconds which definitely helped (despite having to cross a few major roads).

  • Doing my first slvless next month, so did Parkrun in a tri suit to test it out. Felt like a bit of a wally, but did a PB so swings and roundabouts.

  • Probably the superior aerodynamics coming into play.

  • Have a go at a hard ride beforehand next week!

  • Well that was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, maybe a 40 mile Ultra as a first would have been the more sensible option.

I went into it not having run for almost a fortnight with really bad achilles pain, from the start I didn't feel great but by 20 miles my achilles pain had miraculously vanished and didn't bother me for the rest of the race.

I was out on my feet by the halfway checkpoint and if there had been an easy pull out option I would have taken it, after a bit of food and a coffee I had a half decent 10 mile section to 40 miles but that's where the wheels really fell off.

I sat down for a little while and could barely stand or walk afterwards, 40 to 50 miles was dreadful. I couldn't eat or drink as my guts were in bits and it coincided with the worst part of the course along an 'A' road, so it just went on and on and on.

Then something weird happened, I sat down at the last pit stop with 11.2 km to go had some lovely lemon tart and a coffee and stood up a new man.

Stormed the last 10k which was dark by now, up on my toes for the first time in the race following the glow sticks into Avebury for a well deserved pint.

I wanted sub 12 hours but knew that wasn't on from very early on, in the end I finished 100km in 14 hours 21 minutes. I was disappointed at first but on reflection I'm pretty happy considering the build up and state I was in at points.

Only disappointing aspect was that my wife refused to leave me to die in a ditch so sacrificed her race to drag me along to the finish, I think on her own she would have smashed 12 hours.

  • ^ brutal and impressive

  • Which ultra was that? I saw a load of 'race to the stones' runners when out on my ride yesterday. I think I crossed to course 3 or 4 times and gave a shout to the folks I saw.

  • It was 'Race to the stones' lots of friendly cyclists on the course despite us cluttering up the lovely trails :)

  • I was out on the TT bike so only on roads, but my route zig-zaged back and forth across the ridgeway a bit.

I've not done race to the stones but I've done some other races along the Ridgeway... it's a tough old course. Very well done. I imagine the heat didn't make it any easier either.

  • I died on RTTS as well. Ran the 1st half in under 6 hrs then felt very sick after gorging myself on Lunch. I definitely got my fuelling wrong, crisps and chocolate at pit stops is crap IMO. The tracks were very difficult to run on with narrow deep ruts. Just under 16hrs completion- was hoping for sub 12 too :(. Next up is the Spine Race in January.

  • You're both mental. Huge props.

  • Good luck on the Spine Race, looks brutal! Well done on finishing RTTS when you blow that badly it's a huge effort to drag yourself around, I'm looking on the bright side and thinking it can only make me stronger.

Jungfrau Marathon is our next big one, marathon miles are going seem so so easy after 30 mile slow slow training runs. I've got a few 1/2 marathons coming up so it will be nice to get some speed back in the legs.

  • Came here to boast-post about my accidental (got a bit lost) 14k at sub 5min/km average at lunch only to read these 100k-er reports. You guys are making me look bad! Mad props though.

  • All boasts, no matter how big or small, are welcome here.

  • utterly crazy. good effort.

@user49586 a guy from our club did that this year. he was getting full on hallucinations etc.. horrific conditions.

Brighton 10k for me this week. Should be a fun Wednesday evening.

  • Next up is the Spine Race in January

Fair play, that's one for us mortals to follow. Be sure to post your tracker link nearer the time.

  • I've recently got back into running, and on Saturday managed to do a 5k parkrun thing in under 24 minutes which I'm pretty happy about. The only problem I'm having is with my hips, specifically my left hip which is still slightly uncomfortable today. I think it is proberly technique related, is there any tips/videos/articles I can look at that might help?

  • 10k interval run-to-the-train this morning along the tow path and almost a new PB. Phone recorded 9.98km so I can't claim a PB. Started off feeling a bit stiff but glad to feel everything loosen up once I got going and also pretty pleased to see my pace increase over the distance. My fastest km was the 9th, the last (fifth) 1km interval!

  • I have a Forerunner 620 to sell, HRM included. Very good conditions. Let's say 150£?
If by any chance anyone is interested feel free to drop me a PM..

  • Rightyho, back with more 'injury' questions.

My left ankle/foot interface has always clicked occasionally. No pain, just a loud and rather disconcerting click. It's always been sporadic but in the last few weeks (months?) it's been almost every footfall on every run. Still no pain, should I be concerned? And should I seek help?

  • Or should I just stop running.

  • Mine clicks when I walk, run and cycle. Doesn't hurt at all, I only really think about it when other people say "what the hell is that noise?"...

  • LSD today. Legs felt very stiff all morning and running felt hard from the off, it was only after about 5k that I realised we'd put down a sub 4:20 km for the 2nd km (I was trying to catch up with my running buddy) which went some way towards explaning the way my legs were feeling.

Eased the pace back a bit and things started to feel a bit better. After about 7km my mate started to drop off so eased up again for a few more k's and then turned off for a few more km when he went back to the office. Managed to hit 4:46 min/km for the last 2km so happy to see I still had some pace even though the legs were still feeling shit.

Ended up at about 13km, a little over an hour. Good splits for me, all under 5min/km. Looks like the speed work is doing some good!

  • L*v*SD yesterday, Mrs GB training for a marathon walk (running not her thing) so I went with her for a 24km walk in just over 4 hours moving time. Thames Path from Putney to Richmond, up Richmond Hill and through Richmond Park past Pen Ponds (lovely in the middle of the park, never been there before) to Robin Hood Gate, and back to Putney via Putney Heath.

Will be interesting to see how that affects my HM commute on Wednesday morning.
