Having massive problems with our lease extension (part of the sale terms). They want the ground rent to increase every twenty years, starting at £250 and finishing at £4k after five review periods. It seems excessive.
Fucking estate agent rang the missus yesterday and was trying to get her to agree to the terms there and then, obviously she told them where to get off and that its none of their business. We hadn't even heard from the solicitors when foxtons called.
Getting ready to walk away from this one.

The solicitor has asked a valid question. Hive mind, what are the other things i need to get once i have the mortgage?
I know house insurance, are there others?
Which insurer is forum approved insurer? Or does it not matter?

Life insurance is a minimum I'd say, others may disagree, then you might want to pick from critical illness cover and income protection.

Have a check what your work offers in terms of life insurance, critical illness, etc. An additional policy may not be necessary.
If you've wiped out your savings for the deposit and so on then I'd suggest looking at critical illness and income protection on a short term basis at least. I took out income protection until my savings were back at a level where I could cope with being unemployed for 6 months or so and then cancelled it.

The house insurance is critical as they wont give me a mortgage without, but i dont know who to ask for.
for insurance needs would anyone do?

Just checking, you're going freehold so that's why you're asking about insurance right?
I have an insurance broker you can speak with. You can then shop around on price comparison money sites. I went with Halifax for mort and ins, just worked out that way.

If you have bikes over £2k and want to include them on the House Insurance policy then Hiscox seems to be the good one at the moment.
Most other companies have introduced limits on bikes (max £2k usually) before they end up adding 10% of the bike value to get it included on the policy.

Look for House and contents insurers who cover your bike at little or no extra.
Sheila's wheels do, others use other people.
Carefully consider things like excess against what size hit you reasonably want to take before the insurance kicks in.
You probably have decent life and at least 6 months illness cover through work, look at you current benefits and optional benefits packages if you need to top up your cover (such as long term illness) and compare this with the open market.
Bear in mind that if you get a cooling off period on insurance so if needed straight away you can go with anyone to get some cover in place and shop around in your cooling off window.

I've dealt with this guy for my flat (slightly messy as the property insurance is for the whole house which is split into flats). Seems OK but, like always, it's hard to tell unless you make a claim.

Hah, have you seen the new projections for supply vs demand for London housing?
My little flat in Forest Hill is going to make me a (paper) millionaire by 2017, at which point I'll buy somewhere in the old part of Boulder, Co. and run away.

One weekend? This is a 'project'!
And as I'm, currently, single I don't have a 'project manager' on my case all the time.
