Who was talking about track powertaps cutting out the other day?
Mine has gone from being smooth and accurate to registering consistently low power and big fluctuations in cadence. It's not been touched or moved between sessions. So frustrating.

Me. Haven't had low power measurements (besides my usual) but get the occasional cadence freak out

Side note, has anyone skidded on a Powertap track? Asking for a friend.

I really don't understand wtf is going on. I changed the cog, but that's it.
Just come off the rollers - doing 105rpm on 96" (172.5) today compared to 84" (165) on Monday ... and producing 150-170w less.
I know my body well enough to know when I'm hitting certain wattages and cadences now.. especially an effort like 60s flat out. Apparently I was doing 240w for 60s at 135.. which is bollocks because I was spinning out - which means ~200rpm on the rollers with 172.5 cranks.
I think I might just return the powertap and fuck off the whole training with power thing at the track.

could it be a battery thing?

Dibs powertap if you get rid... Sounds weird. Did you calibrate before?

It's going back to the eBay seller if I'm not keeping it unfortunately.

I think you're cursed with powertap wheels.

Yes and yes

No, but I've had the torque tube start to unscrew itself, once slowing hard in Aigle to make the ramp at the velodrome, and once on the Brompton with a mistimed curb hop. It's my excuse for not skidding. Both seemed fine after I'd pedalled them back into place though.

Ah, that's the kind of thing I want to avoid.

Definitely worth avoiding. Having slowed down and started unscrewing the torque tube, I then had the ramp down to the infield (in Aigle you're allowed to ride up and down the ramp unlike in London) which was, ahem, interesting with no means of resisting gravity and its inevitably accelerative effects. Quite a sharp turn at the bottom.

I think I would've needed to practise a bit first. And much, much more presence of mind than I actually had. It was more of a sweaty death pedal trying not to back pedal down the ramp, followed by a rather dicey turn at the bottom with the front wheel gently sliding away from me (thankfully no pedal strike), followed by some deep breaths.

I have scientific proof - new kit gives you extra watts for the first few rides. I shall call them New Kit Watts (NkW).

Sounds like you need to callibrate your kit
