  • Nah, much milder than your standard classic drops. You can always use the 2p trick.

It feels.... Different, I only rode for 5 miles or so. I need to tweak and get used to it.

  • Have the pads been used? (They're not just bedding in?)Also , don't forget to clean the discs too...

  • Yes, used. I'll give them both a clean.

  • Wouldn't the new bars be more uncomfortable on long rides or touring due to reduced hand positions? Also would the more upright position not put more weight on your butt, making it hurt more?

^ I have no idea! I'm just curious and looking to get into touring later in the year.

  • Maybe, only one way to find out. It's mostly setup like this for my new commute and to help with the fact that I'm recovering from a badly broken clavicle.

  • Yes, used. I'll give them both a clean.

In that case, buy new pads, clean rotor, then do some hill laps.

  • What @edscoble said. Those XTR's should have pretty immense braking performance. Forget the burping, just bleed them straight away, it'll take 15mins tops.

  • Pad recommendations? Organic I assume?

  • Go for the Shimano one, they bite well and quite long lasting, useful for your commute.

  • Turns out I had a couple of brand new pairs of superstar gold pads in my parts bin. I'll try them for the moment.

  • Don't forget to give the rotor a good clean.

  • Already done, surprisingly clean, I cleaned the old pads first before I realised that I had new ones. They were pretty grubby and a bit rusty almost.

I'll go and do some laps of archway to get the beaded in before bed.

  • For the same price as the Humpert?

  • Brakes bedded in, new pads make the world of difference. There's some rubbing but I'm assuming that'll go as the pads wear. Also made some much needed tweaks for the shifter and brake positions.

  • If there's, rubbing, check if rotor is true, if that's fine, time to aligned calipers again.

  • Levers up a bit? They looked a bit pointy downy, hard to tell definitively from the photos though with those bars.

  • i think it's normal with those grips as they raise the bottom of your palm up hence rotating all your hand slightly forward

  • I did raise them actually

  • Both brakes are IS mount so you can't really align them easily

  • Best way to bring a bit of life back to disc pads is to scrub them in a figure of eight pattern on medium grade sand paper
The pads (if they get hot) can sometimes glaze over and the glaze can be easily scrubbed off with sand paper or a file

  • You can, just shine a white paper behind the brake to see if both pads have gap on both side.

While you're at it, spin the wheel to see if the rotor is trued.

If you can't move pads out of the way, then chance are the Hope rotors stick too far out.

  • Always had issues with Hope rotors and Shimano. Especially the Mono stuff. They were flipping wide.
@spotter If you feel like splurging some cash. These are peanuts at the moment and damn good.

  • Make sense, they're great but stupidly wide.

Standard Shimano rotor are cheap and cheerful, do anyone find the Ice Tech one wear out quicker?

  • With the standard pads it's like cheese on concrete. Found Organics to be gentler on them but a bit shit in crappy weather.
