  • Maybe you need to do more longer effort sessions.

You might be a lot better at going hard for 20min but not able to keep that going out to an hour.

  • @hippy Steven Abraham racing the 24. Watch out ;)

  • I guessed that.

Could you not turn it round, so have the back wheel attached to the long bike?

  • Quite a strong breeze though.

  • Could you not turn it round, so have the back wheel attached to the long bike?

Think for a moment about what happens to the front wheel if you pick up a bike by the back wheel and drag it backwards :-)

  • Hmmm, I have been slacking off the longer stuff recently.

  • Pacing? If you just go off RPE you could start at 300w and finish at 200 and still feel the same.

  • Warnock is on the start list again. He's more of a threat than Steamroller Steve I think, given only him and Wilko have ridden further than me. I've been off the bike for three days trying to get over what I thought was overuse injury and it turns out it's another DVT so with only 3 weeks to go before the 24hr I'm not exactly in a rockin' place.

  • Push a bigger gear, faster. If you finish and think you could've ridden faster you've blown it, if you fall apart before the end you've blown it. In both cases, just try again, there's feckin' loads of 25s. Or head to the Welsh course and cheat your way to a faster time :)

  • I go off watts. Average 285-290 for a 10, but a measly 245-250 for a 25.

  • You're not trying hard enough. You should be able to manage at least 265 for a 25.

  • Probably. Next 25 is a week on Monday, and although it's a DC event I'll see what I can do wattage-wise.

  • I didn't think 'one speed' Steve was really a threat.

    Sucks about the DVT.

  • His PB is maybe 60 miles less than mine :) But I hear he's been doing a bit of training :D

  • I bet his taper will be different.

  • Wonder if he'll ride there and ride home.

    Bet so.

  • Steve tapers up.

  • how long in advance of events are start sheets usually sent out... I cant see in the CTT rules, but there are lots of them!!!

  • Normally the Sunday/Monday before, sometimes a bit later.

  • its a Monday event!

  • Not until Monday the 13th, so I'd expect it this weekend. It only closed two days ago.

  • Maybe you didn't get in? Check TTF.

^Actually what's the protocol on not getting into an open, do you normally receive a start sheet either way?

  • I'm going to ride my first 10 with tri-bars and a disc tonight, having previously only ridden pursuit bars and 32H.

I've gone down one tooth on the back in anticipation of PBing.

If I fail can I legitimately blame the hot sticky air?

  • no, hot is good (provided the air pressure doesn't get too high) - it lowers the density of the air.

Ideal conditions (from an air density pov) are high temps, low pressure and high humidity.

  • you'll find an excuse, there's never any pre deciding needed in my experience.

Last nights was "different skin suit" which meant I was slipping about on the saddle so was 20 watts down.....

I have a few backup ones as well, like the car that stopped me and the hot weather, but i try to stick to one per ride....
