Well they most likely will work. Perhaps they will squeal perhaps they will be better or worst case they will leave a mark. I use lw brake pads on my other carbon rims and they work very well. Haven't tested the other way around as id rather not gamble on silly expensive wheels regardless of my feeling that they are more or less the same pads .)
I know some of my previous swiss yellow leaves mark when new on some rims as did my corima red pads on the corima rim, it went away with more braking tho.

Heard a story by a witness about a Cervelo breaking in two a few weeks ago on a club run in Surrey. Guy is okay. Pub was a Weatherspoon and yes I can be a bit scared of my bonded fork.

The Indra thread will show you that Crabon isn't the only material that sometimes doesn't play nice. Point was, further back, is fatigue failure is harder to predict with crabon as it's complex stuff, whereas with alu, it's a bit clearer. Maybe. I just read that on t'tinternet, not an engineer etc.
I don't doubt the 'strength' of crabon, I just doubt the certainty with wich we can define how 'long' a crabon part will 'last' in realistic use.

DT Swiss R24 wide rimmed wheels are only 200EU on bike24!

That's tempting...

code is 10k for 10% off before end of june
The Pave wheels are a little cheaper if you want wide (17mm) internal

Tester will recommend 15 sets of Shimano R501's. Maybe.
RX31s, as we're talking about disc brakes :-)

They have been for a while, that's what I paid a month ago. €230 for the disc brake version

How do you find the DT R24 wheelset? Good for a do everything wheel? Might be a good set to take with me back to Aus in August. Which means mix of smooth roads and coarse chip surfaces. They are 17mm internal right?

How do you find the DT R24 wheelset?
I haven't actually had a chance to ride them yet. They are 18mm internal according to Bike24, my 700×28 Rubinos have come up 2mm wider than they were on RS80s.
Good for a do everything wheel?
Depends on your definition of everything. It's a cheap road training wheel.

Bit porky @ +2kg for a road wheelset (albeit disc), no? MT35's are listed at only 50g more and they're a dedicated mtb wheelset.

My Arc31 wheels have had a tt on Thursday and a ride this morning – not an extensive test I know but they seem good.
No 'pinging' so I think they've been built well. No brake rub (with the pads set ~1mm off) either.

da7850. Cheers, I'll keep it in mind just in case. If I can't find a replacement front on ebay, I'd probably go cheap and wide like the R24, or hand built somethingsomething.

Meh. They're cheap and strong, if you want light you're going to have to give up one other attribute.

Before I buy the DT R24 wheelset, any other suggestions around the £200 mark? Must be easily serviceable, and wide. Lighter the better but it's 3rd on the list of needs. Road use, I'm 75kg and not hard on wheels either. Clincher and rim brakes. 10/11 speed, shimano.
Best price I have found for the DT R24 wheelset is £174 inc shipping and predicted customs/duty.

Fulcrum Racing 5 LG is the only alternative that I've found.
-
• #5047
Yeah, I suppose they are. Do you know if they're cup & cone or cartridge bearings in the hubs?
-
• #5048
I think Shimano is the only manufacturer using cup & cone. You can get some Ultegra wheels for £215 which are pretty nice, but they're not fashionably wide - about 21mm IIRC.
-
• #5049
Campag still make cup and cone but only on Record hubs, which very annoyingly only come in 32h drilling.

Fulcrum Racing 5 LG
@umop bought these, he'd be the man to ask about initial impressions. I went for the R24 because it has more and fatter spokes and I'm a lard arse who likes to hit the gravel tracks on my road bike. Having said that, my RS80-C24s are still straight and tight, so I'm probably being over cautious.
They're only red on the outside - they are Campag's carbon specific pads. I was hoping not to need to swap pads when I change wheels. The others are also carbon.
