Handlebar mounting isn't the way to do it anyway...

Megaphones...
(h) riders generally disrupting the peace of the night, and in particular stopping outside people's houses at 4am and having loud discussions about directions without thinking about the people they're waking up/keeping awake or about the other riders who might otherwise be enjoying the peace of the ride,

I'm with @Ludd on quite a few of his gripes. My additional highlight is standing in the sea up to your nipples, bibs round your ankles while you piss but try not to let on. All the time chatting to someone who you know is also having a piss but trying not to let on.
To add to the gripes. The increase in super bright rear lights set to strobe level wanker. With no other lights around, a single low powered led can be seen from a quarter of a mile, there really is no need to blind everyone around you. Especially if you've trained hard on the cs7 to master the technique of overtaking someone only to then drop your pace so as to sit at the front of and slow down the people you have just busted yourself trying to pass.
Other than that, this is still a great ride. We need a really shitty year weather wise though to thin out the numbers.

Weather is looking really promising at this point (there I cursed it).

• #81
Arup and I are intending to ride out and back, shitty weather will not be welcomed.

I had a feeling you guys would!
Is there room for one more tag along? -

Sorry to say I'm missing DD again. Planning a daytime version sometime soon... can some kind soul please hold on to a paper route sheet for me? I feel like I probably might like to have one if doing it with a couple of pals.
-
• #84
I'm in to join you for that, if I can make it. I haven't been able to do the ride properly now for four years.
-
• #85
@Oliver Schick that would be excellent. We're planning to do it on a Monday (the choice of day something to do with one of my pals' schedule) some time during July or possibly August.

Of course mate, will work out the details and let you know.

Very excited about this again - last year was awesome. Despite the massive downpour I got caught in.
Understand the criticisms too, was a shame to see gel wrappers and inner tubes scattered about.

I'm out. Got taken out by a caravan on Thursday evening doing a 10 mile TT on the E2. Fractured hip etc. I'm comfortable now and back home but riding a bike is way down the list. Top of the list at the moment hopping more than a few metres using a Zimmer frame.

Bloody hell. Heal up soon.
-
• #90
Thanks - progressing each day but probably looking at 6 weeks before I'm on a bike again
-
• #91
Sorry to hear that. And a caravan too. Sh*t. Hope you recover quickly. Had similar a couple of years ago and discovered that getting mobile - a bit more each day - is the way to rapid recovery. Oh - and painkillers! Keep well.

Sure. There may be another too. I'm wondering about whether to ride geared or fixed.

Wondered if anyone has got spare coach tickets back for sale? I have got the train back with no problem the last 2 years, but this year looks tricky. PM me please. Can pick up in London.

Ask on the facebook group they still seem to be changing hands.

Fox at Finchingfield are staying open late:
I want to highlight "The Fox Inn", a nice stop in Finchingfield for a real espresso coffee, beer and food. I contacted them asking for closing hours and got this nice reply:
"Yes, we're very aware of this event and are delighted to support; it's a great night for us also. Just to let you know that we'll be open until at least 2.30AM so should see the last few though. This year we've decided to put a barbecue with hot dogs and burgers. In addition there will be the usual snacks of crisps, fruit and chocolate bars together with coffee, soft drinks and a licensed bar until 1AM. Any help that you can give to share this information would be appreciated. I've added this to out twitter and Facebook page"
The place is now in the annotated map (https://goo.gl/intTbr)

Top stuff, well done to folk at the Fox. I stopped there last time I did this ride, and I think I met Stedlocks there as well as the chap with the spaniels in his cargo bike. They were working hard to fill bottles and feed us. (The pub staff, not the spaniels.)

From the facebook page:
The White Horse pub in Great Waldingfield confirmed they will be doing food and water throughout the DD night until about 0530.
