  • I suspect you'll never be certain unless you try it on, as (in my opinion, anyway) the lug-to-lug is only one part of how the watch looks - case design can make a watch look larger or smaller than the measurement alone would suggest.

  • Fashion is very subjective though and the trend for very large watches is already on the wane. If you intend to keep it for a few years then don't worry. Ultimately if it brings you pleasure that's all that really matters.

  • I've tried on a 36mm Datejust, which looks just right on, and a 34mm Date, which looks a tad small but has a marginally cleaner dial. I think I quite like the idea of a slightly smaller watch, especially as it's a (bling bling) Rolex, but I wonder if I've convinced myself of that because I want the better dial.

34mm Date (with my other watch for scale):

    36mm Datejust:

    Thanks you guys.

  • The Air-King-Date, my original crush, was 34mm by the way.

  • As was the original Explorer 1 before they went and fucked it up.

  • Explorer 1 is megapr0n...

  • I'd still go a long way for a 1655.

  • 1016 or GTF0...

  • Any interest in this Steinhart Ocean Vintage Military? It's a few months old, box, papers, dangly thing, spare links etc and of course the majority of a two year warranty:

Direct from Steinhart it'll cost you ~£295 (that's what I paid), so £250 including the rather fetching NATO strap it's on in the picture? It's on the steel bracelet currently (and the spare links are of course included).

  • @StandardPractice - personally I prefer the 34mm offering than the DateJust. It just looks too big.

  • You guys will I'm sure be thrilled to know I've taken some on-wrist photos of the two (almost identical) watches than I'm agonising in my choice between:

    34mm Date

    36mm Datejust

If it were a possibility I'd probably choose the dial from the Date and the overall size of the Datejust, though does anyone else agree that the proportions of the Date are just a bit better overall?

Thanks in advance for your comments or opinions.

  • Can't beat the classic 34mm proportions IMO.

  • after one day, you won't tell the difference. go with the one you like the most.

    agreed

  • .

  • 34mm date looks nicer. Just a tiny bit small though...

  • 10mm to small

  • might as well be a yard to small

  • 34mm

The roman numerals on the datejust are awful.

  • I'd love to have a clear gut feeling but I don't.

  • Any interest in my Steinhart before the Bay of Thieves?

  • @StandardPractice
flip a coin and your gut reaction to the result will help you decide
