  • Ta Gio will check them out been meaning to get to Pok Pok it gets silly busy !!! think they have opened one in manhattan now to. So much good food here, my next mission is turkish out in queens.

    thanks

  • I went to the one in LES but it seems to be closed now, it is good, go to the BK one. Also, set a mission for chinese in Flushing, greek in Astoria, Italian in Arthur Avenue (Bronx) and Korean in K-town.

I have so many stars on my google maps that I could remove the background and still see Manhattan outline!! Any questions just ask away.. I was working like shit when there, food was one of the main solace!

  • nice one!!! YES ! have done flushing need to go again as there is so much good stuff, went to the bronx last weekend to Authur Av its a good market bought octopus in oil, some really nice toms and the meat looked good there too ( they need more of these in NY!!).

the one thing is buying good food for cooking that isn't stupid expensive, chinatown is good that Arthur market was good but quite far for daily shop from Manhattan

  • True, there is Fairway or Westside market, that are Sainsbury-ish, but other than that you need to find local deals. I used to live in Astoria, it's European oriented, so it was easier to find stuff..

  • Tast of London: Worth it/Not worth it? Been before? Going?

I am thinking about getting a ticket for Sunday..

  • For the price, not.

  • Anyone know anyone that works at Deliveroo?

  • That's my conclusion as well so far. What's included in the ticket?

  • ^the most desirable of ethereal ingredients: hipster spice

  • iberian ham, heuvos rancheros and a glass of chilled rioja for breakfast

  • Deliveroo, the no lights, rlj-ers who run down pedestrians, ass holes. Nope.

  • The mint plant in my garden has gone a bit day of the triffids. Aside from mint sauce, pesto and having as many mojitos as possible, any ideas on how I can use it up?

  • Fresh mint tea.

Sicilian style tomato based stews with loads of mint and capers. Nice with chickpeas or sausages.

Put whole leaves in with salad leaves along with some coriander if you have it.

Yoghurt or cottage cheese based raita with onions tomatoes and mint.

    Pea and mint soup.

Chopped finely and rolled into butter using a cling film sausage technique. Freeze and then slice straight from the freezer to put on top of potatoes.

    Mint sorbet.

  • Ok mint sorbet sounds good. Have already done the butter thing but will shove a load in a salad tonight.

  • Chopped peaches, mint leaves and vanilla ice cream.

Caipirinhas and pimms can be staggered with mojitos as well.

  • Is it in a pot? I planted ours in a planters and with other herbs and it went mental. Completely took over and strangled all the other plants.

We ate a lot of lamb last year. If you're into that, you can make mint sauce and jar it up.

  • Yeah it's outside in the ground but not near other plants. Love lamb so will defo be making mint sauce.

Cheers all for the suggestions. My breath is going to be minty fresh all summer long.

  • Basic and possibly stupid question... Can you cook stuff in chilli oil? Or is it just a condiment type oil?

  • Yeah - it'll be hotter though. I've come a cropper by using some really hot stuff that my wife didn't really appreciate.

Oil is a great vehicle for spreading the heat right to every part of the dish. Meant that even with yoghurt, she couldn't really mitigate the spice. An angry wife but sorted my lunch for the next day.

  • Great, thanks. Will go carefully with it! Chilli omlette for dinner methinks

  • Globe artichokes for lunch. Just with melted butter, unless someone has any wild areas in the next ten minutes or so.

  • ^Mint. All of the above, plus new potatoes. And Salsa Verde.
Once you've got mint in your garden, it's basically there for ever. There is a corner of the lawn at my parents house that used to be a herb garden, and it smells awesome every time the mower goes over it.
