+1 I just geekily use the supplied one attached to the DT bottle holder.
Here's my current functional set up.

Is that a custom coloured space horse or a new colour? Its really nice!

My 'about town' bike which I built from the frame up, including the re-spray, using a mixture of old and new parts.

I was looking for lower gearing crankset options and came across this:

that is a good looking bike.

£200 @ hubjub. May just buy a smaller chainring for the rival.
Nice looking chainset though. -

Or get a triple and put a 30/46t chainring on it, only disadvantage is the q-factor.
-
• #9734
I think that's one of the main selling points about the Sugino - sensible Q factor and proper ramped and pinned chairing.
I don't reckon £200 for a whole set up is that bad when you think you can pay near that for just the S75 crank arms (although I personally think that's a mental price for track cranks).

Agreed, prices of some cranks are ridiculous. I think £45 for a decent chainring is my best bet.

I have that on my tourer/commuter. I like it. Nicely built, shifts well with my Rival/X5 setup and the included bottom bracket seems to do its job despite being ridden through swedish winter. I run 44/30 which is great. Also keep a 26t chainring if need would arise some time. Really not alot of options out there if you want a nice modern 110/74 chainset. Seems like the price has gone up though...

I love this! if you ever want to get rid of it give me a shout as it's exactly what my step brother (who's quite tall) is looking for.

@nev Thank you. Will do. It's unlikely though. Been after a Galaxy for a long time, "91-93 period and in nice condition for a decent price. It's really in superb condition for 23 years old, and the Deore DX group is meant to be excellent too. Thought a Croix de Fer would be the way to go for a touring / audax bike, but this ticks all the boxes, is cheaper, and looks good too.
I've put some Time ATAC Alium HP pedals on, and ordered Cinelli cork gel tape and SwissStop Rat Green pads. King cages, maybe a wider bar, swap the Zaffiro Pros for Randonneur Pros, then will leave the rest as it is.

^ this!

Nice, give us an update when it's finished. I had a dx group on my first mountain bike. It was excellent if remember I bought it new more than 20 years ago!

Sacrilege for some but I've a 7spd indexed Deore DX group on my 'Nago cross bike and it's great-reliable, sturdy and the double chainring's cx gearing means it's perfectly able to winch me up steep hills with 20+kg on the rear.

lovely bike-where in Sweden are you based?

Thanks guys. Its been with me for a few years now, constantly changing but I think its getting close to what I want/need (emphasis on want). Next step will be to try and make it a bit easier to travel with. I´ve been looking into the Japanese Rinko-style of packing up your bike in a neat way. Also have a really lovely handlebar bag from RSA Sun Bags on order which I think will be a nice addition.
Based in Stockholm!

Over the last 3 days I've gone through all 391 pages. My favourite lfgss thread.
Functional inspiration overload.

It amuses me how the 'functional not porn' thread contains a higher porn/chaff ratio than the real porn thread.

It's because there's no repetative colnagos and much less pretence I reckon. Or TT bikes, lo pros, and over-fetishised-never-ridden-components and frames.

Also because things which are well designed are often aesthetically pleasing
Is 'attach mini pump to underside of top tube with supplementary brackets thus making bike harder to pick up/carry than it would be if you'd used the bottle cage bracket that came with the pump' a new thing?
