But it also depends on what I'm doing - I'm neither racing the 12 nor the 24hr for the win, I'm going for distance - so it might be worth the risk.

Not considered Vittoria Pitstop? Potentially a 60 second fix.

If it works. Never used it before.
I'd have to carry it and a pump or Co2.
That's why I run durable tyres and cross my fingers. :) -

Pitstop fills the hole and inflates it too.

Magnets? Magic? Voodoo?
Maybe I should get a can...

Tops rates it. I had one for the Hounslow 100 but obviously didn't need it. I've now lost the top so can't use it.

i've used pitstop 4x before , twice on clinchers and twice on tubs and it's worked every time (touches wood), the only problem for a 24 is that the butane it uses to re-inflate will slip out over about 12 hours so you'd need to do a wheel switch anyway eventually....
worth a can taped, hidden from the wind as the chances are it'll work and save you getting on the blower to the support crew and just roll in looking for a wheel change!

Does sound like a good idea for a bit of insurance, especially if I decide to go for some faster, lighter tyres.

I've always wondered what effect tyres/tubulars with glued on tread like VF Records has on aerodynamics. Faster due to some sort of trip effect, or slower?
You'd hope that the edge of the tread band would act like a trip, but it doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe they should let @xavierdisley trim the edges of the tread band with his pinking shears before they glue it to the carcase.

A = VF Record, B = Bontrager TT, C = Conti Supersonic, all 20mm.

Naturally, I find this 2 days after I buy a Veloflex Record.

20mm tyres.. on British roads.. really? Pass.
Oh, that was with skinny rims. So with fat rims you could use more normal width tyres.

A = VF Record, B = Bontrager TT, C = Conti Supersonic, all 20mm
According to the page you linked, tire A = VeloFlex Record, tire B = Bontrager AeroWing TT, tire C = Continental Supersport.
The Supersport is nothing to write home about, a GP4000S should be faster rolling.

Got to be an error? Is/was the Supersport ever available in 20c?

Super duper boring post here...
Did some tyre width measurements.
Veloflex Record 20c (old logo) measures 21mm on my Hed 3 and 20mm on a Shamal (rim is a couple of mm thinner though).
Conti Supersonic 20c also measures 21mm on the Hed 3 and 20mm on the Shamal.
Vittoria Open Corsa Evo CX 20c measures 21mm on the Shamal, presumably 22mmish on the Hed but not gonna measure is.
So, as the Veloflex and Supersonic are the same measured width on the rim, which is faster? AC's research found the Veloflex Record slower than a Conti 20mm tyre, but his VF record measured 21mm.

FWIW I could never detect a total(Crr+CdA) difference between the Bontrager AeroWing TT and Veloflex Record 20mm on a H3 clincher

wtf is going on with that front brake???
-
• #525
There's a lot of wtf going on with that.
Phone team, wait for spare bike/wheel. Could be 1min if I'm right in front of them, up to 30min if I'm at the furthest point away from them on the course. The rolling resistance advantage isn't going to be enough to counteract that.
