  • How bad is 4:25ish for 3km track TT from standing start?
    Considering: riding on drops, non-profile profile 3kg wheels, 50x15 99-100 rpm, outdoor wood velodrome.

    I'm thinking about racing the regional track champ and not sure if it'll be worth to buy Aero/tt bars

  • How bad is 4:25ish for 3km track TT from standing start?

    Reading track league pursuits (4131m) are led this year with a 5:14, 47.3km/h. Your 4:25 for 3000m is only 40.7km/h. You might find an extra 2km/h by throwing new equipment at the problem, but that still leaves you with a 10% speed gap to make up, and that's just at local league level.

  • Won't bother then to buy stuff. Thanks for the advice tester ;)

    Races over here are shorter. I don't know why...
    Individual pursuit Men-> 3k. Women -> 2k
    Scratch Men -> 7.5k Women->5k
    Points Race Men-> 20k Women-> 10k

    Over where? In general, races often get shortened at lower levels to a: get through the programme quicker, and b: narrow the gap between athletes of different abilities. Reading runs abnormally long pursuit matches, and I think that's probably to encourage local testers to have a go, since the pacing is a bit more what they're used to.

  • Catalunya Track Champ//Barcelona.

  • Doesn't seem likely to be legal for either UCI or CTT

  • Are fixed TT bikes UCI legal for road time trials anyway?

  • Stem looks like 3ft. How tall is the rider?!

  • IDK, I don't have a complete biometric database of every fixed TT rider.

    Yet.

  • Only just seen this. Have ridden the odd TT fixed. Well, three to be precise. Two club events and a MG event.

    This was from last nights 10, 53x15 good enough for 23:26.

  • Well, you posted it so a reasonable assumption is that you know a little bit more about the pic, no? Or do you just trawl google images for fixed tt bikes, you filthy little perve?!

  • Rider's PBs:

    10 = 21.06 2007 = 21.33
    25 = 54.50 2011 = 55.48

    50 = 1.52.02
    100 = 4.10.30

    So about three year ago, after the MDTTA Xmas 10, I threw the Fixed lopro in the garage at my Sisters and that's where it was left. I had had enough of TT-ing and so proceeded to sell the geared lopro, aero helmet and a plethora of wheelsets I'd accrued and decided to set out and enjoy my cycling which after 25 years of racing and working in the trade I had stopped doing. This coupled with job/money problems and splitting up from a long term relationship was starting to get me down so I started just going out for a potter not worrying about average speed or 'training' and just enjoying it, stopping for coffee or to look at the view.

    This approach has worked brilliantly for the last few years but the speeds have been creeping up and I am enjoying riding again. To the extent of that, tonight after much persuasion from club Mates and the new Missus, I am going upto the Malton Wheelers club 10!!! I have no pretentions of grandeur, no expectations of doing the rides I was once capable of, I'm just going up to ride it as hard as I can and see what happens.

    Luckily I never sold the fixed lopro, so I've dug it out the garage, put a reasonably low gear (86.2" 49*15), stuck in a half decent non-aero front wheel, found a skinsuit out of the wardrobe and am now sat here :pooh: :pooh: myself waiting to get picked up!

  • Love that. Think I prefer really simple fixed TT bikes to full on aero beasts, look so much better. @Borek's old conversion looked great.

  • Cheers. Bought the frame way back in 2004 but it was always a tad too small for a road bike so converted it to a TT bike in 2012. But only did one TT on it as I got hold of a cheap old Planet X frame. It then sat around doing nothing until last year I decided to make it my fixed bike, selling the old orange frame I'd had for a few years.

  • Also, does using a road frame mean that you don't need to swap to a track axle when using the fixed wheel side of the Zipp?

  • There is definitely something nice about using an old road frame and keeping it cheap, I once minuted a guy on a P3 whilst riding that old Raleigh that cost me maybe £250 for the whole bike. its making do with what you've got and tinkering in the shed vs spending all the $$$.

  • Nah, £££ >>> training

    :)

  • Spot on. I spaced out my normal 120mm fixed wheel to 130mm so I didn't have to cold set the frame.

  • I know that bike/rider!

  • Excellent, can @hippy have his height, weight, inner leg measurement and ftp please.

  • You forgot credit card number and PIN.
