  • Inspired by Anidel's Holdsworth project and then this Ron Cooper build: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/133015/?offset=57625#comment8615335 made me wanna add some modern tech.

Decided to picture log the whole thing, so, here it is...

So, heres the bike before, some good kit on it but a little bit dated,

Picked up a new 105 group from Evans..

Stripped the bike down and installed the shifters and callipers

    Cheeky decal shot..

Time to throw on the bottom bracket..

Wheels finally came in the post..

    Front and rear mech installed..

    Starting to come together..

    Part two coming up...

  • Part 2:

Installed the chain, wired up the brakes and gears, took a while to tune them up, threw on some peddles and a bottle.

    Complete/Final shots

  • Not bad! I like the 105 all black it goes well with the red.

  • I can't decide whether or not you've:
    a) killed a whole litter of puppies or
    b) given a new life to an old frame with an imaginative idea.
You've given me an idea for my 30 year old Bob Jackson frame.
Enjoy your rides on the bike!

  • Haha i'd like to think it comes under b), personally i love the look of new parts on steel frames!

  • Desticker the rims and it will look better still! looks great!

  • Right, remove those stickers!

  • You also need a Brook Cambium. That leather saddle doesn't make the part with the rest of the components :)

  • Ha yes a Brooks Cambium would be perfect as i am vegan, the leather saddle is just what came with the frame when i bought it, can't bring myself to remove the stickers though, i like them!

  • Brooks Cambium finally! First impressions are a little bit uncomfortable though, hope i'll get used to it.

  • looks great

  • I am surprised how well this has turned out. Good work

  • ^dido, lovely job!

  • I think that looks really cool, thinking about going down the same route with my Gazelle Champion Mondial, I need to get the frame re-sprayed first, can't decide on a colour scheme, once I do I'll do a modern build, like you.

  • Thanks a lot guys, i'm really happy with the way its turned out.

    @Skull_&_Biscuits , PM'd you

I exchanged the cambium for the carved one today and its much more comfortable, but they only have it in black, can i get some votes for the colour, black (below) or slate (above)..

I'm leaning more towards the slate, in which case i'll get them to order it in and switch it for this one, but let me know what you think, neither look bad.

  • Any votes (black or slate) much appreciated, I'm 60/40 at the moment

  • slate

  • Black.

  • @staggy nice one man, where are you thinking of getting the respray done?

  • Def black.

  • Glad to be an inspiration! Very nice. :) I vote black, even if I have changed my own saddle to white since putting the Ron together.

  • Hi, thinking about getting Jason Rourke to do the re-spray, his work looks excellent, can't decide on a colour, looking through old Gazelle catalogues at the moment

  • This turned out so well that I am now thinking of getting a steel frame and mounting it with more modern components !

  • I went with my gut and went back to the slate saddle

@PhilPub Glad you approve :) How's the Ron Cooper holding up?
@staggy You decided on the colour yet? Check out this thread, endless updated frames, you might find some inspiration!
