  • I dunno, I'm finding myself more and more attracted to the newer porkas. Was looking at a white with anthracite wheels cayman gts or something and it just looked good to drive. not stupid power, good balance etc. etc.

certainly not so vehemently against those singers though. Ok, a bit chintzy but where the guy started from is pretty cool. Who were the guys that restored Chris Harris's green 911? that seemed to be a pretty decent job.

Edit, I'm actually thinking of that porsche outlaw guy, Magnus Walker, not singer

  • did the palmer sport day a few years back
clio cup with sequential gearbox for starters ( probably prawn cocktail )
formula renault open wheel single seater for main course
mitsubishi evo on a wet track for desert
    caterham for coffee

then on to the 3.0l V6 racing jaguar ( le mans style car ) as the cheese board

one thing worried me was the dual controls on the 2 seater cars .... never really sure if i was driving or the guy sitting next to me with his foot under brake pedal so i didn't break as hard as was actually thinking i was

they give you print outs of your times and activities through the day so you have a record, fun day out
no idea what it cost and whether value for money but a good day out
felt a bit racey on the cbr600 riding home ... well i was a pro racing driver by that stage of the day

  • I'm in love with the Cayman GT4, we didn't discuss that on here did we?

Actually, as nice as the water-cooled 911s may be to drive, I think the newest crop of Boxsters and Caymans are the best looking Porsches in a while bar the 918/CGT/GT3RS models.

  • Who were the guys that restored Chris Harris's green 911?

Francis Tuthill. They're predominantly a rally car builder and their cars are great for that, they won't win any concours events but they're not supposed to.

a white with anthracite wheels cayman gts

That will be OK, we can be friends, it's hardly a convertible Cayenne diesel. Though I'd say the manual 2.7 on the smallest wheels and skinniest tyres is the one to have.

All modern Porsches are for the customers you describe too.

Not all... The silly 4x4s and saloons fund the indulgence in the good stuff like the RSs.

And all 911s were about the triumph of good development over flawed engineering.

I know Jemery Clarkson says this, but it's not actually true, it's just a fun soundbyte. All engine positions have their drawbacks, I'd say a rear engine in a sports car is much less a flawed starting point than one hanging out over the front axle.

where the guy started from is pretty cool.

From a 964? I agree. They are cool, he should have just washed one of those and left it at that.

So you don't like it then?

I understand why people would, but, no, I don't. I would sooner sit under the stairs and poke pins in my eyes than spend fivehundylarge on one.

  • I think the newest crop of Boxsters and Caymans are the best looking Porsches in a while bar the 918/CGT/GT3RS models.

    By a mile.

  • I don't like the Car Throttle website but if Porsche make the Boxster GT4 look this good, I will rock and cry because I can't buy one:

It looks like a mini cross between a 918 and a CGT

  • I've got a Singer in my dream garage however I also have a lot of time for scummy racers you see on roughneckbrigade (instagram). Like that weathered 912 I saw in Lisbon, I'd happily use that everyday and not worry about it (maybe a bit)

  • Found an episode of Wheeler Dealers I've never seen the other day, the MX5, a mark 1 in Mariner blue (the best combination IMO), it was looking SO sweet until the last 10 mins when Brewer turned up with some heinous white aftermarket wheels and a load of stick on chrome tat. I'd have been less offended if they hadn't have insulted the stock wheels, which I bloody love

  • I so wish I'd bought a 964 five years ago when I had a bit more cash.

  • I so wish I hadn't sold my 964 5 years ago when I needed a bit of cash.

  • i am officially not selling a car again. i've even told the wife. it will force me to only buy good cars.

"you can't get a car collection by selling them..." Robert W. Howard.

  • You've changed... Hang on, maybe it's all the Fucktones' fault... #wecreatedarockmonster

  • having the means would be great. purchasing the gti gave the track car fund a lashing.

  • How about a few contributors to this thread clubbing together to buy a track car?

  • That will be OK, we can be friends, it's hardly a convertible Cayenne diesel. Though I'd say the manual 2.7 on the smallest wheels and skinniest tyres is the one to have.

That too. Applies to most cars really.

  • We could start with Nurse's and put some proper wheels and tyres on it.

  • How about Rallycross?

Doesn't require telephone numbers to get involved.

  • Of the modern Porsche range I think the Cayman has the rest licked. It looks great and it will almost certainly handle better than the 911.

Still, I mostly like the 'wrong' Porsches, like the 928, the 944 and the 996 Carrera 4. And my favourite air cooled one is the 3.2 Carrera CS.

  • Can we get a Rover SD1 and go classic saloon car racing with it?

  • We could start with Nurse's and put some proper wheels and tyres on it.

oh what's this, a seat with 'euro look' wheels

    they look 'interesting'

    oh deary dear, no

  • ^ Hella flush innit..

  • They're all beautiful! Apart from the 914, which looks like the devils breath

  • :(

    Here's mine:

  • Rad.

  • Did you go through Fulham last weekend with a road bike on top? Cannondale or something - a big brand. If so, >>>> spotted.
