  • I saw this in Harrogate today. Really lovely wee thing, I would love to buy it, but... Firstly, it's 34mm, and I'm not sure I could carry that off, I tried a 36mm Explorer recently and that felt on the small side. Secondly, it's fifty years old. Can watches that old survive daily wear and tear for long?

  • Yeah, movements of that era by ETA are rock-solid. You risk it having been run dry which wears the pivots and leads to poor positional variance in timing (not that likely though) and also poor previous maintenance skills where anything can happen, but again, unlikely to have happened.

    If you buy from a shop, then I'd expect it to be recently serviced and showing on a timegrapher that it should absolutely stay within say, a minute a day. Something more like 10s would be more realistic for one in great running condition.
