We checked out the Kings X court last night, pretty decent I should say:
Thanks Kev for finding this court. Pints from the NE crew the next time you see them!
It's a good size, like Downs. We can book it and best of all it's FFRRRREEEE! There's lights till 10 but it didn't come on tonight. Booking slots are only for an hour but they do allow group booking if they're informed beforehand.
There bit of gravel on court near the entrance because of the garden centre adjacent but nothing a sweep can't clear. Surface is alright, although it looks new, there's quite some bobble on court. The lack of boards also means that the ball gets stuck right by the fence quite often. There are also goals with a chest height crossbar across it but thats a quick fix by putting some 6 inch planks across.
Spoke to a few local kids and they seem alright, they didn't make a fuss while we were playing although they wanted the court for footie. Best though to book the court beforehand if we wanna hold sessions there, saves dealing with kids at all.

Cheers for the feedback Beagle.
10pm lights out is pretty good, but it would be good to have a skirting board around the base if the ball is sticking in the gap. Who is the 'they' you refer to, is it the local council, Camden or Islington? Or maybe some other body like a Kings X regeneration quango?
Maybe we could contact them, with a few pictures of the setup at Newington, and ask for them to be put in place. The LHBPA could probably even buy the boards (they are scaffolding planks).
What's the deal with the lights? Do you have to ask someone to switch them on every time you want to play?

I only briefly passed by it on the way to Kings X to catch a train, my gf. went back to it after she'd dropped us off and took the pics. Is the slope that she took the pics from suitable for sitting on? Would be a nice viewing point for watching games if so, that's the only thing I miss about Downham, the brick steps along the length of the court were great for socialising.

The slope is wild meadow planted and I doubt you'll be able to get that changed (often a provision of planning approval). You could sit in it, but you're probably not allowed...
Newington-style boards would be a big bonus. They also need to carry out some repairs to the metal mesh in places (bent out of shape, one open area where kids probably break in/out).

It seems like a local council rep thingy which you need to contact, they are based just beside University of Arts. There's a number provided on the notice board by the entrance but I stupidly didnt note it down.

Have we explored this court in Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens? No idea what the surface will be like (probably quite slippy knowing the general area and name of the place):

Found this the other day on my travels next to Loughborough Junction station. Huge court (Herne Hill size, if not bigger), decent surface, recessed goals, A couple of seating area bits to chill in when you're not playing. It does have gaps where the gates are and the seating areas but will be no worse than playing at somewhere like Newington. Could be worth a go.

the kwik cricket court! awesome they have put fences around it? Used to be open or badly designed anyway.
New polo court with floodlights. Looks bigger than Downs from the map. Off York Way and Copenhagen Rd, N1. Brand new, part of the King's Cross redevelopment. Anyone interested in checking it out next week, maybe on Tuesday evening?
