  • On that subject @HoKe where are the weight weenie scale photos of every component?

  • So the final pieces of the puzzle has arrived (oh did it hurt my wallet)

But I know how I am and that if I brought Ultegra di2 I will always regret not getting DA, and I do not want that playing on my mind, especially how this bike will be my Sunday best ride.

So what we got here is are Cassette, and the DA di2 gear kit, which includes a front and rear mech, shifters, internal battery and the rest of the cabling.

  • Eagle eye viewers probably spotted that I've chosen the Ultegra cassette instead of a DA. Two reason why I did this:

    • I've been reading on the interweb that the DA cassette has been having a lot of issues with riders and how they crack after 5000k on the bike, this was down to the four bolt mounting system they had at the back of the cassette to hole everything in place. And whey they crack, the only sign you'll notice it is when the rear wheel starting to creak.

    • Second reason was that I couldn't justify myself buying a cassette that will probably save me 30g for 4 times the price of a very good and more importantly reliable cassette. (ironic I know with the di2 statement above)

But I must give a very big REP for Merlin Cycles, as there delivery system is amazing, I order the whole kit on Monday afternoon, and it arrived the next day! Never had that kind of service before. Big rep again, and would highly recommend.

  • What is a hodiedouchebag?

  • I have about a week before I get the bike shop to build this for me.

Hopefully it will give me some time to think whether I should get the sprint shifters or not, the head says no, but the heart wants it as it will be like the ultegra and DA issues again.

I'll probably sleep on it and give it a week to make any final rash decisions. =/

  • My interpretation of the terminology of 'Roadiedouchebag'

  • Correct call - go down one notch for consumables such as cassettes and chains. It's the thinking person's choice.

  • bike shop

    why? DIY yo
    Di2 is piss easy

  • No torque wrench, no BB tools, liability and omitting risk plus don't have the patient to wrap my bar tape anymore

  • I hear you on the bar tape :)

  • Aren't your shops kind of pissed that you order everything online (esp. Canyon frame) with prices that they cant beat meaning that they won't make any money selling you some parts and get them to only build it up? Or are they charging you accordingly for the build?

  • I'm sure they'll just rinse him on the labour charges there're just grateful for his custom.

  • Pretty sure the labour charge would be somewhere in the 70-100£ range. Entirely reasonable for the peace of mind for your expensive build to be put together Plenty of bike shops now specialising in the maintenance and build market.

  • As @umop3pisdn & @7VEN putted kindly, they will be charging for the labour/time for the whole build. It's just really peace of mind and tbh I have no ideas about gears and cables...

    #fixie4life?

Plus with my track record for cracking bikes, I'm probably not the best person to be using a tool without someone there to hold my hand =/

  • Speaking of which, anyone know where I can get a 1 1/4 'slam' headset from?

  • Chris king headset too?

  • Don't think Chris king do 1 1/4 headset for crackyon

    #ICouldBeWrong

  • Just ride it without the top cover like the pros. This is your Sunday/nice weather bike. Innit?

  • Don't think this is the right one, from the interweb my headset is 1 1/4 to 1 1/2

  • True, cap isn't the issue, it's really that I-lock headset system that I want to replace

  • depending on what bearings it uses you may be able to run a normal integrated headset not an i-lock one, but i'd check the steerer is designed to be used with an expander plug because the i-lock system does away for a need for one completely

  • if I brought Ultegra di2 I will always regret not getting DA, and I do not want that playing on my mind

    ; )
