  • So the drawings for the new pavilion were displayed at the official opening today of the trackside lighting, inner track and hard standing. Pic 1:

  • View from the infield. The architects are the same as the Pringle.

  • Awesome!

  • Raced with the new lights on last night for a very first time. It was great.

  • At the Friends of HHV AGM last night, the representative from the Trust laid out a timeline for a new, smaller pavilion than the one presented up there ^^ that could be complted in the second half of 2015. Lot of things need to go right between now and then of course, but he seemed convinced it was plausible.

  • Any details of the pavilion?

  • Do you think they will tarmac the drive/ carpark soon? ;)

  • I didn't take pictures of the new drawings, but they are from the same firm as those up there and not dissimilar, just smaller scale. The new building would be pretty much the same size as the existing eyesore. Much of the bike storage stays in the containers, though a shiny tent/PVC roofing would go over the top. The previous plan contemplated a second access/drive, but that has been shelved in the new scheme.

And yes there was discussion about re-paving the drive which got decimated during the construction earlier this year. The Friends may consider that as a use of any excess cash, I think.

  • Found these pictures of the Rome Velodrome from the 1960 Olympics http://chickenshit.smugmug.com/Architecture/Velodrome/2205948_wccgSB#!i=114804234&k=TRP8MHX
Glad this is not going to happen at Herne Hill

  • ^actually quite tragic. Makes one appreciate all the effort Locog went to in making our Olympic park so sustainable.

  • I know some people are contemplating a ride from HHV to the Vigorelli in Milan, which was threatened with closure recently but has been saved. Think they may take in another historic velodrome on the way. Roubaix maybe?

  • New Pavilion plans have been put up for consulation
