Because cranks with fixed length and no surplus spidery bits are better. The Zed cranks are only that way because it lets Look cover all the bases with fewer moulds, and more importantly with fewer SKUs given that they are only selling them as kits with frames. Let's say you offer the 695 i-pack in 6 sizes, that's 6 SKUs. Now offer it with 3 different crank lengths and 2 different PCDS, that's 6×3×2=36 SKUs.
