  • Yeah, the Time Slice Si forks are rare. Here's an early example, in Cherry red Saeco colours. I've seen them in the silver and red colourway but of course now I can't find any :)

It surprises me that yours isn't the si carbon, as it's a performance frame - i.e. bb30.

    Rad frame tho

  • What's wrong with thomson stems?

  • The X2 faceplates crack. And they don't look great. Nice that they are in 10deg though.

  • They're notorious for cracking that's why so many people use them.

    rightttt

  • I guess so many people assume it won't happen to them.

Meh - Cannondale frames crack - doesn't stop people from buying them, for the same reason I guess. But Cannondale frames are pretty. X2s are not.

Funny I guess - I've cracked an X2 but not a 'dale frame.

  • Neither of the two I own have cracked. Maybe I'm not doing it right. I'll go torque it up too much.

  • I don't think anyone said all of them crack, yo. Just don't be surprised if yours do.

I bought a curiously cheap replacement faceplate from Thomson and it's been all good since. But still not pretty.

  • If you want to crack the faceplate just tighten one bolt up all the way so the faceplate is touching the stem. Then tighten up the other bolt.

  • Amusingly, some Easton stems are designed to be clamped that way.

    Stems: srs and complex business

  • And Pro stem too.

  • My commuter/racer 2008 CAAD 8 is finally complete* after a few years of swapping around bits.
Added a new Archetype + Hope front wheel to match the powertap on the back. It's apparently a former team Health Net frame from North America.

    A mix of 5700 shifters, 6800 chainset/brakes, 6700 gearing and 3T cockpit with -17 degree stem.

*for now, needs a clean and needs the bottle eyelets fixing.

  • Does any one in West / SW London have a torque wrench capable of the 40nm to swap a spider ring?

I need to swap ratios at some point this week, have the ring and tool but left my 3/8" wrench at my parents place

  • Yea, assuming your tool has a socket drive hole. Mine does not.

  • Awesome, Yeah it takes a 3/8" socket drive on the back.

  • Hmm how many awkward tools are required to look after 'dales? Am feeling v tempted by the Di2 synapse with hydro discs if I come into some money this year, though would swap out the wheels for Reynolds Assaults. This is subject to finances and checking how they might fit me.

  • Zero, really - the only tool absolutely specific to the Cannondale is the spider tool and the puller for the SiSl crank (talking about road bikes here).

  • Press fit tool for BB30 bearings if you do those yourself. That's it.

  • That's just a headset tool though, I got this in the ProBikeKit sale which does most things including BB30:

  • A wooden stick comes in handy for drifting the bearings out

  • Yup, just I guess it's something most people wouldn't generally own. That Park one is on my wish list.

  • I have a basic cyclus headset press

  • If you get the Park Tools BB30 remover then it comes with BB30 specific inserts for a headset press.

  • new stem and saddle, now it's perfect for me

  • Insert, tighten, apply stick to rear, bang with hammer.

Makes life much, much easier if there is little to no bearing edge available to put your drift against.
