the proviz one > http://www.provizsports.com/en_gb/proviz-multipurpose-en471-high-visibility-vest < meets en471 for width and positioning of vertical and horizontal bands

I had a look at PBP night photos and there's all manner of shit so I guess they aren't that strict on the compliance. If I get something in horrible yellow with some reflective shite on it (ie. the dhb gilet thing) I reckon should be ok. Especially since my French is so awesome - angry arm waving.

• #206
Fuck, 17 pages on high-viz for PBP? Out.
-
• #207
Valve cap colour got is 23 pages and still going strong.
-
• #208
Anyone using ANY valve caps should have their bike taken off them. /thread

Is the DHB stuff certified? Go all out with... http://www.provizsports.com/en_gb/catalog/product/view/id/964/s/reflect360-gilet-reflective-gilet/category/137/
Gore do a 'Visibility' line, I'll check if the one I have is marked as EN whatever later...

• #211
That's probably too compliant for the French, but they do look lovely.
-
• #212
What would happen? They refuse to stamp my brevet if I'm not wearing it?

There's one just like that included in the entry fee, just google image search for "pbp 2011 gilet" to see them.

What would happen?
You're served inexplicably stale croissants in every bakery en route. Until the hi viz improves
-
• #218
-
• #219
They can't apply that to my Strava time...
-
• #220
seeing as you're not french, or francophile, if a steward type person gets a negative notion about you (cos you're riding too fast and not french) and enforces les regelements, it'd probably be a less risky strategy to just wear the vest provided FOC with PBP pack.
^PBP vest totally EN471 compliant with width and placement of reflective bands

• #221
Little do they know - all croissants taste awesome after 400k...
-
• #222
Yeah, I'm thinking using the supplied one would be easier. But they don't have pockets or 'access' pockets which sucks - getting stuff out of a jersey with numb hands is hard enough.
Plus, the proviz one... ALL the fluoros!
Audax spirit must be to use the cheapest option so included one wins again.
But what if it's the wrong size, uncomfortable, etc? It could slow me down!
Argh! Stupid rules!

customise with knife and duct tape matey

Probably some law about carrying knives...

The 2011 one has access slots to get at your jersey pockets (just to the outside of the reflective stripes), but they're a bit fiddly.
As for size, you could swap them at collection if they were too big/small. Of course, you can't try it in advance, which is why finding one that fits and works for you now is probably better.
No point going too hair-shirt on it all, it's not like you do everything on the cheap anyway.
Or there's a thermal gilet in high-viz too:
