• I bet this has been raised elsewhere on here. But. 20 mph zones, while they're great (they are!), isn't it more likely I'm going to get stopped than a car? Are the zones really enforceable?

In other news, bright, sunny, bit cool, still undecided whether going through Camberwell and Walworth is better than back of Brixton and Kennington.

First, I am not sure that the speed limit applies to bicycles.

Secondly, the enforcement of cars is sporadic. However, many will obey the law and thatt number will increase. Those who will flout it are more likely to drive at 30 mph in a 20 mph zone rather than 40 mph in a 30 mph zone. Overall the speed will drop.

This morning I had a cart behind me most of the way observing the limit. Only when the road widened did another car overtake him and then jump a light. The limit gave me the compliant car. The twerp would have been a twerp whatever the limit. I count that as a plus.

  • Only when the road widened
    Considerably I'm guessing...

    In seriousness.
20 mph up college road/fountain drive.
The taxi driver I used on Sunday was doing 40.
