the guide is a paul, I think the thumbie is too, don't know what shifter, but any friction sstick will work. it seems that everything is VO so maybe they do the shifter and mech too.

Yeah I wanted to avoid that Paul CNC'd rubbish if possible.

Could I just leave both rings on, and use the limit screws to set the mech as a chain device?

Get a wolftooth chain ring and ditch the mech/guide.

I messed up my left hand sti shifter in a crash recently, it still brakes so I've left it on, messed with the cable/limit screws a bit and now my road bike is a 1x10 (with both rings still fitted) until I splash out on a new shifter. Haven't dropped a chain yet...

How do you fancy DT shifters on a porteur? I'm working on a custom front rack for my cross check, and was thinking DTs wouldn't be feasible?

Mount the down tube shifters on the bars like thumbies?

Or just splash out on a new set.

Been riding with Paul Thumbies+shimano bar ends for the last week; decided last night to remove the Thumbies and mount DTs instead. Aside from aesthetic hangups; I didn't like the reach required to shift into the highest cassette cogs, nor the force required to shift up into the large chainring.

Downtube shifters just hit all the marks for me; tactile indexed shifting [CLICK!], reliable due to mechanical simplicity, and they look elegant as fuck to boot! My only issue with them is the learning curve; but that's a skill like any other and just takes time.

I was however, concerned about mounting a front rack with DT shifters; not a fan of taking my hands off the bars when riding loaded for any reason.

Yeah, I moved to thumbies on my child/load carrying bike because DT shifters when loaded are horrible, I find. Obviously people have used them on tourers without issue but I found the combination of them with a very high load (child seat) made it all a bit too wobbly for my liking. I certainly wasn't able to spend the time making sure the shift was correct using friction; indexed shifters may be easier.

Actually my WT was stolen last week. still waiting for the shop to get a new one in in the correct size. Then eventually x9 10 speed.

boo, they're very nicely made, got 42t, ran out of gear when going at 30mph+ but that not a bike I'll be going fast on anyway.

I've DT shifters on my crosscheck and didn't have any issues when front loaded, but I guess ymmv.

Lovely stuff

Loving this long time, absolute joy to ride.

Saddle is a bit tilty forwardy, my only 6mm spanner bent when setting it up (was a "model building" one...) so just waiting for another one to level the saddle angle.
