I would say £85 was not a bad deal by the looks of it...
WD40 might help with the seat post
Depending on fit you could probably lower the stem

Looks like a bargain, especially if after you spend a bit of time cleaning it up.

@JT also a fan of the bar tape but I think it needs replacing , and id have to strip it to change stem, fix right hand shifter etc.
Also going to dib a bit of oil around the seat post every night this week and then see how it Is at the weekend. Anyone have any suggestions saddles wise ? I currently run a turbo on my other peugeot, but considering a second hand flite I saw on Hillary stone, what's everybody's opinion?

aesthetically a flite would be better but what for if you don't find it comfortable..

Those shifters can quite often be fixed by flushing through with gt-85 or similar. The grease in them seems to go off and harden over time stopping the mechanism working correctly. If that doesn't work they can be taken apart and cleaned, it is a pain in the arse though.

UPDATE : seat post is out, I have discovered it is 25.4 mm diameter and I will probably replace it for a nice shiny one. Have considered buying a new stem, may purchase a longe one because in all honestly the frame is a tad small for me. I've seen a few fancy itm stems ( to match the bars)on eBay that grab my fancy. Still not fixed the shifter, my dad has been fiddling about with it , following various YouTube tutorials etc, but still no luck. -

Have you tried flooding the shifter with WD40 and clicking it up and down for a couple hours or so, constantly re flooding it? Solved a pair I got awhile ago. Then just re-lube once it starts clicking properly after the WD40 has completely drained and dried out of it.

Do it, it works almost always, I actually take a strong degreaser first, then flush the degreaser with WD40 or similiar and when it goes through all the clicks lube it with some light oil.

Re tyres;
a good tip if you're short of cash is to look for decent second hand ones on eBay. Make sure you only buy models that will definitely be relatively new so you don't end up with some old perished ones. Decent tyres make the world of difference.

They will come up more like 28mm than 25mm so double check your clearance first.
Re saddle; fwiw my bum gets on with both Turbos and Flites. You should be able to find old ones in unattractive colours on eBay for cheap if you just want to try the shape out.

The WD40/gt85 trick is a good shout, it fixed two of my older shifters, though went through basically a whole can.

Good shout on tyres, I missed out in some second hand gatorskins a few weeks ago. I'd prefer 23c over 25/28. Any benefits of a wider width?
Saddle wise - think I may just chuck the turbo from my other pug on this and then put an old blue sells italia saddle which has been hanging in my garage for a few years on the other one . I've been riding with the turbo for about a year and its moulded nicely to my bottom. -

Nice little project, give the bike a full service as you suggest, polish the frame and forks with Muc Off polish, stem looks okay, needs lowering, new tyres and tape, a bit of TLC, it'll make a nice little bike, change the bar tape, good luck.

Any benefits of a wider width?
More comfort, being able to run lower pressures, more grip due to larger contact area and lower pressure. There's a bit of a weight penalty, but if you're worried about a few 100g I'd say there are better places to start.

I leave for Cornwall on Saturday. Bike is currently not ready, however shifter problem is nearly resolved. Gears are shifting well but the return on the brake lever is a bit lagged and the front brake seeks to stick. Going to apply some cheap black bar tape I have lying around in the garage and some old pedals and turbo saddle and then will test ride later. Fingers crossed the bike will be ready by the end of this week.

could that sticking be down to old cables? you could lube them or try a new one? probs totally wrong! but just a thought..
I've been lurking on the forum for a while but not under any username. I recently acquired this Peugeot for £85 from a local cycle jumble. It is no working condition. I aim to fix it up a change a few things to make it look a little less ugly. I'm only 15 so have little funds so the bike will end up looking a little beater-ish. It will be used for short-ish rides with friends, commuting around town and for the school run when I wake up late.It has Columbus Aelle tubing and Shimano RSX groupset.
What I am planning of doing is:
-Remove seized seat post (buy new one if needed)
-Fix broken right shifter
-Good clean
-Fit new chain
-New saddle
-New Cables
-New Tyres
-New Handlebar Tape
-Different Pedals
-New stem?
I also found this catalogue showing the bike in it's original spec.
Any help/suggestions would be great. Cheers, Tom.
