Open it in notepad and see where the starting coordinates are.

done! thanks guys
Ludwig, hippy and other audaxers .. best approach with edge 800 for an audax? Any way to add some sort of markers where controls are? Dont want to waste time. Battery saving tips?

Yeah, add waypoints using Basecamp or one of the other GPX editors. Not using the map screen is meant to save power. I dim my unit and use extended battery pack. Not sure how this is going to work for the 600k tomorrow. I reckon I might lose power before I finish.

I don't know what the 800 is like, but with my 1000 one of those lipstick sized external batteries pretty much gives me another 8 hours

• #2131
Yep zip tie a lipstick charger under the stem and start with it connected to garmin, use bluetack around the connection to stop the lead moving/ provide a waterproof seal. Staying off map screen and screen light to minimum saves juice.

Bluetack. Good idea.

As I guess this is through the blue egg turn the brightness down and you will we fine with cadence and navigating. If not you are either lost or your battery needs replacing.

Mine felt loose, turned out the cable end was the problem, not the port on the garmin.
-
• #2135
Could be either, they've both been abused.

So I've got OSM maps on the 810 now. How come it won't let me search by postcode or anything?
I get 'Enter State/Province' and type stuff in like ENgland, UK, etc. and it then just shows a black screen with back arrow. Fucking useless. What happened to being able to enter postcodes - do OSM maps not allow that?
-
• #2137
Edge 1000 allows postcode search, but it only takes the first 4 digits and then wants street name and house number.
-
• #2138
I think it's an osm issue. My 800 works fine with Garmin maps.
-
• #2139
OSM on the 810 does not fully support post code search.

The edge 500's course function is a bit rubbish isn't it. I found the 200 really easy to follow and thought the 500 would be the same, but sadly not.

I have mixed opinions on it. The most annoying thing for me is I want to see data as well so I have it set to scroll but that means it spends most of the time it's on the map screen drawing rather than showing a route.

What is the easiest to split one gpx file into three?
-
• #2143
Personally I'd just open it in notepad and copy/paste the sections into three new files.
-
• #2144
Thank you but that did not work.

• #2145
TCX Convertor lets you edit data and export very easily. Or, trim and re-export from Strava?

My 705 has started discharging the battery when switched off. It works fine otherwise, charge holds for a day when in use, but if left off overnight with a full battery, it will be dead by the morning. Any ideas?
It did get very wet recently but I left it in a bag with silica gel for a week, and have replaced the battery since too. No improvement. -

rode to Eastbourne today, Garmin navigating- froze and crashed at mile 47, then crashed and turned itself off 23 miles on from that - final 6 miles it survived.
What gives? I am of course used to Garmin being shit but this is beyond my normal expectations.

Garmins basecamp

I've got no problem following the 200's simplistic breadcrumb trail. It's good even in singletrack.
The 500 does not give me a direction arrow back towards the route when I'm off course, draws very slowly so I can't see what's coming up, zooms in and out at random at slower speeds and does not accept gpx files. I suppose it's tailored more towards the fitness market but I don't see why courses should be inferior to the 200, unless it cannot process all the extra information at once.

Sugru.
create the route, save it, view route, export, choose GPX or TCX, download file, stick downloaded file on Garmin.
I use TCX files from ridewithgps on my 800 and I've never had any issues.
