Jeans are hardly going to help the situation
While I do agree, it's nice to have a saddle comfortable enough to ride in whatever you're wearing.

Cracked my china carbon :(
-
• #354
pic?
-
• #355
As you can see the rail cracked near the clamping area so I think it might have cracked due to the side-load clamp mechanism on my seat post. Torqued both bolts to 5Nm, did I over-torque maybe?
-
• #356
I thought they were only supposed to be vertically clamped?
-
• #357
Yup, especially on real SMP saddles.
-
• #358
Would make sense, they seem super-solid vertically, less so side on. Speaking of which, I'm moving my own Chinese carbon SMP on to newer pastures. Now I know I like the shape it's served its purpose, just a little too unforgiving for the fixed. Any takers?

After my bike fit the chap put the saddle level, which is much more painful than having it 2 degrees down.

PM'd

Yeah. Don't use horizontally clamping seatposts with saddles with oval rails... but I think you know this now ;-)

Your bike fitter needs to talk to Steve Hogg, clearly

Just ordered a SMP Extra for the tourer, will be interested to find out how it compares to the china carbons I've got! Feels good to be supporting the company.

just in case anyone is interested I am selling my white dynamic (only because I got a black one), its got a small scuff on the rear but otherwise in great condition. I would like £85 for it.
-
• #366
You'll enjoy it in the sense that you won't have to wear bib shorts when you go touring.

Ditched the broken carbon for a genuine Dynamic. Butt's happy.

tried the dynamic yetserday, havnt managed to find the right angle just yet. What ever saddle I try it always just feels like im sitting on my delicates.
On the plus side, it felt way more supportive than any other saddle i have tried before. A much sturdier platform and felt like putting the power down was easier

I've got 4 Dynamic saddles, 2 carbon rail and 2 steel. They are the best saddle I've used by far. The distant second best is a Specialized Romin Evo 155. Even with the cutout in the Romin Evo saddle I'd end up with pain for up to a day later after a race due to the pressure on my perineum, no issue on the Dynamic saddles. I've not tried any other SMP saddle, although I do have a Composit that I got cheap, but haven't tried it due to the narrowness but it could work.
I find around -2 to -3° (nose down) to be what works for me.
@apc
You may need to move the saddle forward. When switching saddles I compared the saddle shoulders which resulted in it being nose forward of my Romin saddle but in the end I needed to move it a bit further forward again so I wasn't bearing too much of my weight on the narrower part of the saddle (towards the front). For me I think this is due to needing to sit further back on the Dynamic saddle to support my sit bones compared with the wider Romin Evo 155. -

do the carbon rails make a big difference? gonna order a dynamic soon. Composit is great with bibs and shorter rides in jeans, but with a backpack and stiff alu frame daily riding without bibs it might be a bit too stiff for me.

do the carbon rails make a big difference?
It does, but then again, a carbon seatpost also make a difference (as well as bigger tyres and lower pressure).

I've not compared my Dynamic saddles (carbon vs steel rail) on the same bike but I did compare the Romin Evo Pro (carbon rail and firmer material) vs the Romin Evo Expert (hollow Ti rails with gel padding) on the same bike and found the carbon rail saddle a lot more comfortable overall but that is probably partly that I prefer less padding.
I think it is good to have carbon somewhere in your bike, whether it seatpost, saddle rails or frame as it should reduce certain vibration frequencies. Although I've yet to ride a carbon frame.

Went from fizik arione vs to SMP Extra.
My ass is thanking me.
Would recommend. -

Don't suppose anyone in Clapham area has an SMP hell that I could try?
I could just have weird anatomy. Saddles are after all very personal and Spez can't test on everyone.
How come you think their standards are slipping? :)
