Even if they don't match perfectly when they are together, spaced out across your frame they may look close enough for it not to matter!
Looking forward to seeing this. -
• #53
Dis gonna be brilliant.
Nouveau retro ftw.
...on 175mm cranks due to bike fit / preference? Our dearest supreme leader, it would be remiss if I did not remind you of dat dere pedal strike. -
• #54
Pedal strike is only an issue with low BB's, which track frames (generally) don't have. I run 175s fixed and have never had pedal strike. People use it as an excuse to go to 'trendy' 165mm cranks
-
• #55
Never pedal strike?
It happened when I try and join a pro peleton recently.. was cringe. -
• #56
What frame and crank length? Theres always the 'don't lean' approach
-
• #57
Pedal strike has never happened to me. It'll be fine.
And yes, 175mm = bike fit.

Everything is here.
Well, almost everything... seems I only ordered 1 tyre. Oops. Anyone got a spare Conti Grand-Prix 4 Season in 25mm?
The hubs and Nitto part are close enough that the gold will work.
This bike will be a triumph of silliness. I'm looking forward to riding it.

Now I have it all together... I think this build might actually work.
The only really ugly bits are the brake calipers (Dura-Ace) and the brake lever.
-
• #60
are they gold?
-
• #61
The brakes? No.
Black and silver calipers (DA 9000):
Though the lever part of the brake lever is gold. Oh yesh.
-
• #62
Gold brake or no brake.
-
• #63
This is my bike, my rules.
I'll opt for a decent brake, concession for silliness to the lever.
-
• #64
That lever is horrific and has no place on this bike- poorly made, poorly finished, just crap.
Also, if you are going for matchy matchy I think it's all or nothing- get the brake calipers anodised alongside the 7402 lever blades so everything is gold.

I was sorely tempted to go with a leopard skin colour scheme using gold and black components and a furry top tube protector.
-
• #68
That would be taking the bike too seriously.
The brake, meh it's just a brake. The lever, sure whatever, it's just a lever. Oh, it comes in gold, then sure I'll take the gold.
They are the ugliest components, but that's OK. They'll work until I replace them.

You could use one of these:-
(I have one knocking about in my shed you can have)

• #71
I'll take that as a no then
-
• #72
too gold
-
• #73
Heh.
I quite like them, but I don't think I'd find them comfortable. I prefer cross levers or BMX levers really... but I couldn't be bothered trying to research and source those now. I'm basically deferring that choice until later. It was more important to get hubs, drivetrain, headset, stem and other core components together.
I haven't given brakes much consideration beyond "It should work". I was very lazy in the choice of the brake... I don't even like Dura-Ace in general, never used a DA brake. I'll see how it goes.

Is this resolved yet?
