  • Yeah, at WB. All I can remember is buying a pair of wheels off him yonks ago.

  • Had a Slater's empreror IPA last night, very good, pretty damn boozy mind.

Also a Snake dog IPA, normally don't bother with these as it's everywhere, but i'd forgotten how biscuity and lovely it actually is.

Have a box from Beer 52 waiting for me as well. Looking forward to the Mikkeler and To Ol offerings.

  • This is ace

  • Brodie's Jamaican Stout tonight. Excellent. Seems dry hopped. Very tasty. Also their Imperial IPA which is brilliant. Very sweet and smooth.

  • Did the NVQ foundation couse in beer at The Beer Academy today with a view of continuing on to acquire the beer sommelier qualification

Good mixture of people in attendance. Guy from Hiver, new brewer from the Kernal, guy opening his own bottle shop, owner of the draft house chain, japanese journalist, a few beer bloggers and some employees from coors. Interesting day, tasted 12 beers which were all bog standard types (guinness, hoe, coors, becks, old speckled hen, pilsner etc). They go into more detail on the next course.

  • So they get you to taste shit stuff before bringing out decent beer?

  • Yes the first day is a very basic course. I did the test in 2 minutes. The next day goes more in depth into belgian and german styles, different hops and yeasts and more on food matching.

Good thing was tastings were blind and it reinforced the fact that I hate shit beer especially Carling!

  • Not me unfortunately.

Having a hoppin' frog hop dam triple ipa tonight. very full on almost whisky taste, very good but feel it could have touch more citrus notes to cut through the extreme maltiness.

  • Had a Siren Calypso Berlinerweisse afterwards to take away the shit beer taste.

  • I'm going to Meantime's Brewfest at the naval college in Greenwich this Sunday. Breweries confirmed so far are:

Rogue, Five Points, Thornbridge, Siren, Darkstar, Kona, Mongozo, Harviestoun, Beavertown, Tiny Rebel, Anchor, Delierium, Flying Dog, Brooklyn and Redhook

  • Redchurch's Old Ford Stout is bloody great.

  • Tried Innis & Gunn's white oak wheat beer (infused with bergamot and blood orange). Started off pleasant enough but after a few mouthfuls I just smell oaky chardonnay type smells and taste an overwhelming sweet vanilla note. It's also quite flat and nothing like a kristallweizen as the blurb on the bottle suggests.

  • Weird Beard Out of Office.. quite nice. Usually don't like coffee beers because the coffee aspect is usually too bitter unless it's found in a massive sweet boozy thing. This is a 7% IPA with Yirgacheffe added and hits the spot nicely.

  • Agreed the out of office tastes great.

On a similar note I had yeastie boys gunnamatta recently. It's an IPA 'dry leafed' with earl grey tea. Really well balanced between hop and tea flavours, recommend.

  • Continuing the Earl Grey theme, I've been enjoying Siren's "Love of work".
(This despite me despising Earl Grey, and very definitely a 'work to live' type...)

  • hhmmm tea?

  • They're SABMiller now. Dead To Me.

  • Tea in beer is ok as long as it doesn't begin to taste like a cup of tea. Same as any adjunct like coffee, etc.

  • Never been to it before so thought I'd check it out seeing as it is not too far for me to go. Don't mind queuing if the suns out plus going for a nice roast along the river beforehand so it won't be a complete waste of a day.

  • Loving the Five Points Hook Island Red right now

  • Any west Londoners know a couple of good ale houses Acton/Hammersmith area? Been hanging around Wormwood Scrubs recently with a friend and haven't found anywhere decent. We want to drink lots of beer Saturday night have a crawl, visit a few good pubs...

  • Born To Die is a eulogy to the hops that sacrificed themselves in its creation.

    Oh dear...
    rip hops
