At the mo I only have one that is no use, can't find my vag cable (cable to USB) nor reader. Arghhhhhh. Wish I can remember who I lent them too.

Just got some insurance quotes for a potential 190E.
£3300, £3200, £980 and then £325.
I was losing hope till I tried Footman James.

Amphibious?

nothing to compare it too, but the engine seems to be fine. The idle sounds OK, it's still fucking fast, and when you rev it the wail is present and correct
If it were a 996 my money would be on the variocam solenoid. Dunno much about Boxsters but I guess they have the same. From memory it's an £800+ job, more on one side than the other I think, so if it is that you'll be wanting to get it done back at the dealer under warranty.

I saw a car this afternoon (W201) that I liked a lot.
One small snag is that the owner says the person he bought it off never sent the V5 form off to the DVLA after selling it, and because he decided to sell it, he never sent off the V5C with his details on. He has this and it is from the car's log book so apparently I can just fill out a V62 form and register it in my name and that should be fine.
Are there any potential issues with this?
Also, the accelerator cable needs tightening a bit, as I noticed a bit of play before it bites and when we checked it there is a bit of dead space before it engages. Is that quite straightforward/cheap to sort?

Soon...
(It won't actually be anything like this)

have you had it HPI'd?
and welcome to the wonderful world of MB ownership :)
-
• #23368
Haven't HPI'd it yet but that's definitely something I'll do before going any further. Is there anywhere particularly recommended for that or is the DVLA one just the standard?
I wanted a diesel I could run on veg oil but this one seems like a much better deal than most around, and the normal problem areas are all spotless. It sat in a shed for most of the last 10 years, doing 3,000 miles since 2006, but has an MOT till next year and runs really nicely.

hpi is hpi > https://www.hpi.co.uk/home/
'sat in a shed' not good a lots of rubber seals and things that need regular action will have deteriorated - which you'll then inherit as and when they give up the ghost. if you must have it at least take it to a decent MB independent mechanic, MB Owners and MB Club forums have reccos.
good luck anyway :)

Already found the local Merc independent, apparently Gem-Tech is the one to go to East London.
I looked at it using the buyers guide checklist on Mercedes-190.co.uk and in terms of seals and rust it seems fine.

HPI is clear too.

Background:
- My car, after ~10 miles of stop/start traffic, on a hot day, with the aircon running, whilst at idle, stops.
- It won't restart for 10-20 minutes, but once it's cooled down it fires up as if nothing has happened.
- It doesn't show any codes/store any codes, throw a check-engine-light
My theory was that it was the crank position sensor, so I changed it.
Having cleaned the old one up I tested the resistance across the pins and got 294 Ohms, which is annoyingly bang on the range for a good unit - 200 to 500 being said range.
I boiled a mug of water and dropped the sensor in that, resistance jumped to 360 Ohms at ~80 degrees.
So - resistance is rising as temperature increases, but not beyond the "good" range.
How hot is the crank position sensor likely to get? It's on top of the gearbox bell housing, right against the engine.
I really, really don't want this issue to continue - nightmare scenario is the engine cutting out in heavy stop-start traffic on the motorway, in the fast lane, so I want to make sure I have identified the responsible sensor/component/etc.
FWIW after I swapped the CPS and the coil the car fired up immediately and idled happily.

All my adult life I have wanted to own a Fiat Coupe 20v, in yellow or blue.
Knowing fuck all about cars, is that a bad ambition? Are they crap rust buckets or anything?

I love them! When I started thinking about buying a car that was right up there. No idea it there were any good though.
