If we say that yes, it makes them lower maintenance then that probably also means less prone to failure as if they don't need so much maintenance then chances are they are getting the little maintenance they do require where as a cable brake that requires more maintenance might not be getting it and therefor, is more likely to fail.
Doesn't that just make them lower maintenance, as opposed to less prone to failure?
Genuinely interested though as I've never ridden hydros...
