• And so it begins. Check engine light. That'll be goodbye to another grand I suppose, and it'll be something pointless and shitty like an oxygen sensor. At least it's worth fixing on this one.

Fucking modern cars. I scoured the market, and bought the very best 986 Boxster on the market, and I've not driven it about 5 times before the problems start.

  • Get an obd2 Bluetooth device and a copy of torque app and scan the codes yourself.

  • I sold the R32 and bought an 18 month old GTi. Had it two to three weeks and the orange engine symbol pops up. The manual and it advised that I "contact the local service centre immediately" because of "emissions issues". Booked it in, dropped it off and the same thing happened two weeks later. Funnily enough it happened after the missus had taken it to Abu Dhabi for a meeting. Went back to the service centre and tore the bloke off a strip and he dealt with it. I subsequently read a couple of forums which advised that the orange light showed when there had been a tank of lower octane fuel added.

I questioned the missus about this and she said that she'd asked them to just fill it up. Which they had done, but with low-rent fuel.

She is now well aware that she has to put 98 in instead of 95...

  • Did you get it off a dealer? If so take it back for them to fix it.

Hopefully it will be something simple like a coil pack rather than something scary like the variocam solenoid.

    Does it idle ever-so-slightly lumpy?
