While Shimano do a 'carbon and alloy laminate' on their OEM wheels, there doesn't seem to be anyone selling just rims with this laminate stuff. Because it's a shit idea? Seems sensible in theory...
Maybe because rims wear out and Shimano would rather you buy a whole new wheelset from them.
I have RS81-24 wheelset. Lots of good reviews and no problems with mine so far...

I have a feeling it's a patented idea, and that Shimano licence it from Alex. It's probably an expensive process too.
