Not quite, it's lighter, machined to more exacting tolerances than PF30 and "stiffer" than traditional BB's (as claimed by manufacturers).
Bearing's typically never need changing, although people like to change them out often or whenever fitting new groupsets (which is fine).
Fitting adapters isn't really a problem either, the pro peloton does it, and they haven't had any issues with cranks. It's often the case also that crank+bb30+wheelsmfg adapter is lighter than 24mm spindle crank + traditional BB.
People just hate it because you need a bearing press and you sometimes need to inspect the bearing seals.
Finally, bb30 -> hollowgrams.
BB30 is a massively faffy and annoying standard, isn't it?
