Ive reserved a model to look at/buy this evening. Going for the 13, for cost and portability.

• #7803
hold off until I get the issue sorted, until then Macs are shit.

The base one is a bargain, and you can upgrade it to a 3ghz+ processor on the online store which is pretty impressive.
Says the guy who says ghz don't matter.

Do you mean spaces? ( I think that is what apple calls it, where you have multiple desktops which you scroll between) if yes then I use them frequently and I'm sure it isn't opening in one of those as it doesn't show up at all.
When I minimise the window to get it to appear, it shows the animation of it moving from a spot on the desktop to the bar at the moment, so it is there but just invisible

I don't care if you guys are sick of me already or do you actually want updates, but here goes:
Still waiting for the so called engineering team to get back to us with their findings, but I have pressed them with where do I stand if they don't come back with answers that I am happy with. I can actually get a refund if I wanted to, which I have half a mind to do then go build a hackintosh or something. Thoughts?

I would want to know exactly what was causing the problem then get a refund if its a mac problem, just incase whatever you use as a replacement kicks up any similar issues. Most customer service/technical help is a disaster, apple is probably the best.
Any hackintosh or equivalent is going to be reliant on you solving any and all problems that come up yourself. If you are confident in doing that I'm sure it will be grand, but i would fail miserably.

I get tempted by hackintoshs at times, 2 pals of mine use them at their work, but then all it takes is apple to release an update and they'll all be screwed.
-
• #7809
option 2, trade it with an iMac, then get a MacBook... yes I am still tempted.
But I agree apple still offers some of the greatest customer service.
They have till the end of this week, so watch this space.

Get a refund, buy a new one?

A wise choice. This comes from the old-time user, but never again. Just sold my last Apple gear (iPhone 5c, got a rocking 'dumb' Samsung B2710). Had Mac Mini G4, Mini Intel, early Cinema display, early Air, Airports etc...
It was good back then, but now it's basically a teletubbies show. Hardware is not bad, but the software and the philosophy, consumerism, app store, politics etc gaaah...
Edit: just noticed you were referring to a hackintosh, but the same applies, just say no, fuck them...

• #7813
G4 is still rolling strong BTW at my brothers...
Snow Leopard was the last good show.
Now it's only OpenBSD where ever I can, on the 'lil ALIX router (looking to upgrade to a gigabit Soekris), my main computer, server etc. Linux also is going to shits, can't stand it any more. Even the rest of the *BSD family is nowhere near to OpenBSD quality standards. So OpenBSD, period. The only sane thing left in computing today. If not for OpenBSD, I would just leave computing altogether.

what an identical one? I'd have tl pay extra? The price has gone up since my year model, so they have actually given me a better and more expensive machine as replacement.
-
• #7815
Just force the computer to shut down, this happens everything single day with our Macs at work. Quite annoying really.
-
• #7816
^ yup Googled it - shut down, restart Cmd + R, turn off wifi, restart, then it finished up
meh
-
• #7817
Why did you go into recovery?
-
• #7818
pretty much this thread - install was stuck at 50%
-
• #7819
ha, apples default solution - wipe everything clean. Did you see that? I might apply for a job there, so easy.

Ha, I'm afraid I don't share your hatred, quite the opposite, I'm a big fan of the ecosystem and think the hardware is beautiful, and yes that does matter (to me).
My flat has two Airports for wifi an Apple TV and obviously a Mac and they all work perfectly together allowing me to stream any media anywhere in my flat.
Computers did less in the olden days and there were less of them so fewer went wrong, that's my theory anyway.
I'm blatantly setting myself up to buy the buggiest mac ever made next purchase (if @ExTra doesn't snap it up before me).

Don't worry Chris, I will make sure all bugs are fixed before then, this has obviously become my calling in life.
all seriousness aside, I think I have become contagious with whatever the fuck is it bugging my Mac, I am beginning to see previously fine Macs at work showing through blank screen on me...

cough pebble cough

My gf's cousin here in Oz picked up the Pebble Steel for about £80 in the sale... Would deffo get one if they come up at that price again...

fucking smartwatches

That's how much I paid for mine on ebay - practically mint. I'm loving it. Only two people so far have asked me if it's the Apple Watch.
*emphasized text*I too have one which is issue free and love it.
I'd hold off getting a new 15 inch though, they will be updated quite soon as per 13, think they are just waiting on Intel to bring out the quad core versions of the chips that are in the 13.
