CL is much more of a money spinner though. It's worth risking a struggle for the extra cash.
Just being in the group stage is worth between €12m and €21m. Then €5M+ for each extra round, all the way up to €15M for winning the final.
Europe League is €1-2m for the group stage, and a max total revenue of €10m for going all the way to the final and winning.
So just being in the CL is worth more than winning the Europa League.
The difference of one spot in the PL is around £2M, so based on the average drop of places posted above, the Europa League does not seem like a good idea (financially)
Isn't it all based on coefficients crap?
Like saying Celtic win the Champs league, and money during the wins up to the final, they'd get considerably less than say, Man Utd/Chelsea winning?
