I've got a gilet and a very old one of the below, both of which are pocket-squeezeable, just not sure if they're sturdy enough to keep me warm for a super long and potentially wet descent

A rain jacket will help a bit, but if it's wet and cold then no item of clothing will keep you warm on a long descent apart from full winter kit.
You have to compromise.
