• I thought it was to do with cutting carrots into sticks rather than slicing them. Fine for dipping but not for your Sunday roast.

  • Batons darling, not sticks.

  • Those are batons, not sticks.

  • I'll baton you two in a minute.

  • Carrot julienne you oaf.

  • Snotty, this morning.

  • I'll just leave this here from the wikipedia page in question:

its sources remain unclear because it has insufficient inline citations.

For the sake of everyone involved I've been staying away from the conspiracy theory thread but might take a look later....... :)

  • Poor Wikipedia markup is not proof that the claim is unsubstantiated.

Instead of a true version and a mistaken one, then, we seem to have two separate phrases, with different meanings and purposes, both embedded in the earliest mentions of carrots and sticks. So maybe we can call a truce in the carrot wars - at least until the next clues come to light.

  • It takes a special kind of idiot to out themselves on Twitter.

  • It takes a bit of a dick to grass her up to her employer, but then again sod her.

  • This morning I crashed out, I rode into the back of another cyclist (my mate) who had braked hard on seeing a car pull out from a residential side street to turn right into a static queue of traffic.
Basically I don't know what to do, if I can do anything at all. The incident was the drivers fault; they shouldn't have pulled out with two cyclists approaching at ~20mph, BUT neither of us hit the car. Ideally I'd like to claim and replace the wheel and shifter (could be more) that are knackered now, posting here to ask if I have a chance of that?

  • In car terms I've always been told that if the car in front has to emergency stop you should have left enough room to stop yourself.

Would the same apply to bikes despite shitty driving?

  • Claim off their insurance? Would require some proof that the driver caused the loss though.

  • This is what I'm concerned about. I was at fault by not leaving enough room, but the car was also at fault for causing the emergency manoeuvres, so I think there's minimal chance of a claim or anything. Considering paying a visit tonight (the drivers house was really near the turn-off) and seeing what might happen.

  • The incident was the drivers fault;

Maybe a very small percentage, but the majority of the fault is yours for not anticipating it and being too close to your mate when he hit the brakes.

I reckon you'd have no chance of making any kind of a claim against the driver (or your mate).

Look at it another way and take the car out of the equation; if you'd been riding behind your mate and his chain had jumped off the sprocket and locked up his rear wheel, and you'd ridden into the back of him, who's fault is it?

  • Very rude at the time, costs are not for them to settle (insurance).

It's the rudeness that is making me think points rather than what might be a more positive approach.

    KICK.HIS.ASS.SEABASS.

  • Yeah I've been thinking about it a lot, much of the blame lies with me. Add into the equation that I hate the current blame culture in the UK, and I really just want to leave it. My mate isn't happy about this (he was quite shaken too) and so we're gonna call and see if we can have a chat if the driver is about on the way home.

  • I had this close pass, lost my temper a bit, and have reported to roadsafe but not heard anything, does anything ever happen? it was my first time reporting

  • Did you send them the video of you hitting his wing mirror and calling him a cunt etc.?

  • @wetpit sometimes, the responses can take a few days as they are done manually. Usually they will need/want 2min before whatever happened, depending on what it is I have seen I typically cut from the set of lights before/start of roadworks for something like you have until the driver is out of camera shot. It removes doubt about it being provoked.

  • I hadn't uploaded it when I sent the report.

  • @wetpit I do the reports as I upload the videos, most important bit I figure is the "your info" box towards the end. A quick description of how/why I'm positioned as I am and then a description of what the driver was/wasn't doing and link to the video, whoever is watching it knows what to look for and can go "yep, I see all he described".

Your Information: I'm riding along in the primary position to continue straight, out of nowhere the driver overtakes while changing lanes and then brakes suddenly to make a left turn still going far too fast they need to use both sides of mount ephraim road as they turn into it.

In your video remember it shows you undertaking in the same gap you had been overtaken with.

  • Pass looked uncomfortably close to me ( I had similar just recently with a trailer) but then you fucked your argument right up by passing back through the same sized gap.

  • Lucky you didn't get clipped. Personally, I'd take primary position in a narrow lane like that because some dickhead will always try and overtake even though there's clearly not enough room.
