Yup the nds crank clearance is totally fine now but if I face a millimetre off the nds bb shell then the crank clearance will be borked, that's the point I'm trying to make.
Good point about filing the spider. Makes me nervous though. Extending the dimple on the chainstay seems the sensible option. I get that people DIY it but I think I'd prefer to get it done by a professional.
I filed back the spider on my Omniums, took over a mm off, possibly 2. Have been riding them (hard enough to crack a frame) for over a year and had no problems with the cranks
